I was having similar issues with coil strength a couple years ago and it was the power coming into my house that had an issue. every game I had just felt weak.
Quoted from cottonm4:I have heard of that happening before. not with pins. With something else.
yea like you could play the games fine but they were missing that snappy feeling. was like that on TNG,fireball classic, sea witch, LAH, and STpro. I found out when I bought ST nib and shit was like the others, called electric company and they said some shit was fucky at the pole.
I havnt seen a nice 9ball in a long time, ours here has wear all down there. would be nice if it got repro one of these days
Quoted from Flynnyfalcon:So after a few weeks of solid playing QS with the upgraded 13B-6 transformer, I'm almost certain there has been no difference in flipper strength, or any pep in performance versus the 13B-3.
One thing that I'm taking more note of, is the dimming of GI and insert lights every time I flip. I'd be surprised if it's designed this way. I can only assume there's a voltage/current drop in the system somewhere, which would account for my feeling that the flippers are a little sluggish.
Does this ring a bell for anyone?
do your other games feel weak or just QS?
Quoted from Flynnyfalcon:Just QS
maybe your rectifier board is the issue if you were using the same one with previous transformer with same issue. super odd idk
I've had problems with new rottendog rectifier boards before. idk man seems weird. maybe swap with stars and see what happens.
was working on these turds today. always fun

It looks like your Seawitch wire guides heading to your flippers are installed on the wrong sides. It might just be the camera angle. I know this because I just did a playfield swap on mine and almost did it backwards myself.
definitely possible bc I had to paint/touch it up and clear it a few years ago. it plays fine but I see now what you're talking about. good eye!
we used to have a viper years ago, it got sold bc it wasnt a great player but def was unique with the spinning target shit in the middle
does anyone know of a downloadable 3d file for the plastic pop rings? kinda want to try printing one with a resin printer to see if it will hold up.
Quoted from gdonovan:Quick question for Stern owners- Does any Stern have lane shift and if so on both left and right flipper buttons? I looked up the schematic for Quicksilver and didn't see anything.
Quicksilver doesnt have lane change.
going to be starting a cheetah pf swap soon. I have yet to play one so I'm just going to tear this one down and make it all newish, then play it. layout looks interesting.
Quoted from SantaEatsCheese:Basic flipper help needed.
First time fixing flippers from this era (Stern Stars)
My right flipper, when pressed, stutters terribly and the circuit rapidly opens and closes and opens and closes so long as it is depressed. Opening it up, the left switch parts sparks just like the other side, but repeatedly. It did this occasionally when I got it last weekend, but now it is doing it all the time. So far I have adusted it back and forth a little to no effect, and cleaned the leaf switches by the button and in the flipper circuit. I also replaced the coil sleeves. What am I doing wrong and what is my next troubleshooting step?
Thanks!
[quoted image]
Could be a broken Hold winding on coil. have had that happen randomly.
Quoted from dddanielll:Having an issue with my Galaxy (on location) where the score just ratchets up nonstop. Last time it happened I showed up to the location and it was doing it. I put it into switch test assuming there was a switch stuck but nothing was registering. Is there anything else that can cause this problem?
if you hit both flippers rapidly does it gives you points? my guess is a switch is to close and makes contact on minimal vibration causing free points. have this issue a lot on games at work.
anyone know where I can purchase a link/plunger for the drop target mech? ours melted along with the coil and I'm not having any luck finding one. maybe a bally version will work? part number is #A-398-STN
yea the plunger part is good the plastic link is melted so I need that. figured easier to find the whole thing.
Quoted from cottonm4:Here is the plunger and link. I think this I the assembly for the drop target coil. But not 100% sure. It could be for Stern flippers.
https://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/A-197
[quoted image]
yea that's a flipper link/shaft. I'm pretty sure the drop target link is larger than the flipper one tho. looking like I'll have to remove one from a working drop and attempt to make/3d print it
Quoted from rstrunks:Can anyone confirm that the diodes on this Seawitch upper flipper coil are configured incorrectly and should both be the same?
[quoted image]
yea its incorrect. should be banded side of diode on middle lug and power lug
I'm all about dragonfist, something about getting that spinner at max and ripping it just feels right. mirco needs to get it togethers bc I'm ready to build one. debating getting my Meteor I've had buried for years out and fixing it until/if DF playfields drop then donor meteor it is.
are you guys converting the meteor playfield harness to work with other titles, or are you building new ones out right.
pretty cool man, when DF pfs eventually drop I'm going to donor up my meteor, so good to know it's been done from other harnesses for other games.
Quoted from mrSATURN2012:Lightning vs. Big Game.
The Lightning I am looking at is in better condition, but Big Game looks more fun.
Any thoughts from owners?
lightning has multiball but I feel like big game is a better pinball gameplay wise. lightning is getting new code so maybe that will help.
Quoted from BorgDog:Just picked up a Stars, but sadly without lockdown bar. any chance anyone has one of the old button style they don't need? (yeah, I know). if not one of the later style would work as I could get a mantis receiver for it to replace mine.
Thanks,
Dan
PS it's the one on the right.
[quoted image]
sent u a PM, Hot Rod Arcade posted he has lock bars a few days ago
Screenshot_20221021-085417_Facebook (resized).jpgQuoted from HoakyPoaky:Thought I would share this rare bird…
I was able to play my buddy’s Iron Maiden for the first time tonight Gameplay might be a bit lacking, but you sure have to admire the unique mechanical ball lock feature, the Heavy Metal inspired artwork, pulsing layered backglass, and the odd ruleset. I did manage to start multiball, which was rather difficult, so that was pretty satisfying. Cool game for sure, but way too rich for my blood.
[quoted image][quoted image]
cant wait to get to mess around with that maiden whenever it gets here. pumped to finally get to play one.
looking for s Quicksilver or Stargazer playfield Harness if anyone has one they aren't going to get to. trying to build something lol
https://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/515-5044-00
anyone tried this in replace of the sling kicker? has similar face
I've always wanted to put 80s William's games in bally/stern cabs bc I like the lip on the backbox, looks better visually.
the right outlane switch doesnt work on our Maiden here, havnt looked into it yet bc no manual. pretty sure both gates work tho. I can snap a pic tomorrow if that helps at all tatman9999
when u short plunge those upper inlanes it's supposed to activate the diverter gates in order for the ball to not go to upper playfield, but to the ball lock area. I'll be back at the arcade on friday so I can get into ours and get better pics of that relay.
we just got maiden like a few weeks ago so I'm still trying to learn how this game works. other than the right outlane being dead here, the game will randomly reset and I havnt been able to manually recreate that so I'm clueless on that issue. definitely a unique game though, I like it so far.
Quoted from cottonm4:For me, Lightning is a source of parts only.
not going to lie, just picked one up to use for parts lol.
I've tried to like Lightning. we have had one at the arcade here multiple times over the past 10+ years. never really grabbed me. Only reason I'll be gutting it for parts. I have a meteor that i could use instead but that game is better so dont want to. I just want a quicksilver/Dragonfist already. lol but only one is buildable currently.
Quoted from play_pinball:https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/price-check-1980-sterns-quicksilver-stargazer-seawitch/page/175#post-7580238
For the record I have not installed or tested one to confirm.
I'll try it out, thanks
I've had issues with some of the new closed EOS switches, where the switch is closed but the contacts aren't shorting. quick swipe with a burnisher and they work fine.
free fall is fun we have ours jacked so high I had to put a piece of plastic in front of wireform so the ball can lock and not fly off onto the playfield
our free fall skips over sometimes, but I think that's more on our end for having it jacked up in the back on 2x4s lol
yea I need an Ali playfield. wish we didn't use Dragonfist a lot here for tournaments bc I'd send him our playfield bc I'm trying to build one.
Quoted from gdonovan:I should have a spare set of Meteor apron decals if anyone is looking.
If you need a set, now is the time to check in. I'm going through my bin now to see what colors I have on hand. Going to try and do a bunch so I don't have to setup for a run, if it's needed in the future I'll just be able to mail them out as needed. I'll do Quicksilver and Seawitch tomorrow with Stargazer to follow.
Gary
P.S. If someone would like to me take a stab at it, send me a "early Stern" apron and I'll work on doing one.
Need an apron for fitment testing.
[quoted image]
whenever you get to Quicksilver, I'll take a set. also need dragonfist for whenever if ever the playfields come lol
I just ordered one from mirco. if the beehive guy is only doing like a small run then I'll just gamble since it's already available. I just want the game and have wanted it for years so I'll just deal with w.e as long as I can finally play the game at home. asked mirco if they will be updating the 5x/6x and he said thats not changing, so rip on that. I'm super excited nonetheless
does anyone know where to buy the classic stern mushroom opaque pop caps? some on ebay but crazy shipping.
I have a few random blank spinners from an old operator parts haul. guess I should weigh em and see what I acquired. def will be ordering some Brunswick brackets.
Quoted from FantasticPinball:I am working on a batch of Stargazer playfields and I noticed something odd.
The previous batches of playfields were copies of the sample playfield. The inserts matched the sample.
In the new batch I was looking at photos to make sure I got the inserts in the right spots and I noticed some variations.
OK.... here we go...
The first variation is the insert in front of the left side drop target.
In the original sample this is a 1" Orange Translucent.
The Greatwich playfield photo on the Marco site has a Yellow Opaque in that spot.
The Flyer shows a Red Opaque
Some online photos look like a Red Translucent.
Second Variation is the insert in front of the right drop target
Original sample has a Red Opaque
Greatwich had a Red Opaque
Flyer shows a Red Opaque
Some (few) online photos look like a Red Translucent.
Third Variation is the top/center of the circle in the middle of the playfield.
Original sample has purple opaque
Greatwich had purple opaque
Flyer shows Orange translucent
Most online photos look like a purple opaque (maybe?)
The first variation is the only one that is really bugging me. I did orange before, but can change for this batch if there is indication that it should be something else.

I’m not a purist and would be fine with using Williams mechanics here (presumably a Williams kickout saucer as well.) I figure it’s a bit of a stretch to try to find this as an eBay score, whereas Williams parts are readily available. Seems like that orientation would still fit in the space behind the big drop bank….
I’ve hunted down a F2K long drop bank, 3-banks, and a single drop mechanism, as well as the ball trough parts. So I think this is maybe the last game/brand specific thing I need outside of somehow rigging up the spinner…[quoted image]
I just bought one off of ebay earlier today for a build I'm planning. just keep an eye out. I've seen them for sale more often than not
anyone have one of the seawitch ball deflectors they aren't using? need one for work. ball constantly getting stuck on left plastic.
