Quoted from Coyote:

Stern 7-digit driver boards were longer than Bally 7-digit boards, and Stern 6-digit boards.
So, anything that is 7 digits, needed to be screwed in from the backside.
One of the reasons why I used Bally 7-digits in my Meteor instead of Stern 7-digits.

I wish all displays were screwed in from the backside. I like being able to shim them to keep them from rubbing on the glass.

I have had some assistance on this issue in the past and I still can't figure it out.
I can not get the GI to flash during attract or when GALAXY is spelled. It worked before I did a playfield swap.
I re-pinned Q17 plug on the Driver Board and Tried and Alltek Driver board.
The Relay was ordered from K's 48V.
Is this wired up correctly? Thought I copied how it was before.
Note: GI works fine, it just wont trigger to flash. MPU and Lamp board are Alltek.
Hopefully someone can help.

Does it work if you ground the pin on the driver board? Is the drive wire in the correct position on the header of the SDB?

Also, can you hear the GI relay click in solenoid test, and how many green wires are going to the GI relay.

Quoted from Gott_Lieb:

The relay does not click on solenoid test.
1 Green wire to the relay and those other two are blue....faded I think.
ill double check header.

Yes it works if I ground the wire. Does that mean it is a wire on the MPU?

#3107 3 years ago

project Nine Ball Value? great backglass, solid cab, playfield has some wear down in the lower middle, every present except lockdown bar. It will be probably a year before I get to it so testing the waters. If it has real value i will sell, if not then I will keep it.

I figured it out. I checked each connector and found one wire was on the wrong side of the connector in the same spot as the key on driver board!?!
My fault when redoing the connectors.

And that is why I asked about the connector.

I'm looking for some opinions on what you guys think this Stars is worth. TIA

It was a different connector. It was P4 for the input into the SDB.

Nice shape. Assume working all the way I’d say $1400 +/-

project Nine Ball Value?

Really depends on how bad the wood is in the middle. But starting @ 2k and going up would be easy these days...er.. before Corvis anyway.

Wrong spinners & drops to start. Art 'touch up's' in the middle? Csnt see on phone nut thatvisnt shocking. 1000-1200?

#3114 3 years ago

What do you see wrong with this playfeild (not the wear) and why would someone do this?

Bingo!

Bingo! Bingo!

I see Bally Eight Ball Spinners and D/T mini post...
Looks like somebody tried to save the D/T assembly from
direct hits from the bottom drop targets...
The bottom drop target probably got broken a lot.

#3119 3 years ago

My playfield has the same mini post in the same location

#3120 3 years ago
Quoted from bluespin:

How do you sweep your drops then?

#3121 3 years ago

So the lower post on the drops. Does anyone else have this besides bluespin?

I've looked through Google images and I dont see any others. Mines definitely coming out.

#3122 3 years ago
Quoted from Mitch:

It's more difficult but doable. The playfield is really worn so I've been debating sending it out to be restored and not playing it for a year, or buy a Mirco keep playing mine and installing the Mirco after the clear hardens (maybe three months?).

Will you leave the post out after you restore it?

#3124 3 years ago

Yes I will remove the post. In looking at the right spinner area, I have a mini post there as well. I've seen pictures with a mini post and one with a red post, both blocking the bottom of the left of the spinner. Was this another mod, or were mini posts installed at the factory?

#3125 3 years ago

No post on mine.

Sorry. I meant to say the left side of the right spinner.

#3128 3 years ago
Quoted from GorillaBiscuits:

No post on mine.[quoted image]

The blue print shows 2 standard red posts at the left spinner.

There is no post at the drop targets.

There is one mini-post at the right spinner. However, the drawing shows the post on the outboard side of the spinner. I'm calling an engineering drawing error on this. The mini-post is to protect the spinner actuating wire. Your mini-post at the right spinner is correct when I match it to my Seawatch and Dragonfist.

Yours is the correct setup.

It would have cost me around $600.00-$700.00 to have my beater QS play field restored. I talked to my restore guy; He said buy Mirco as it will be better than anything he could do. And this guy is good.

For $100.00-$200.00 extra, I got a brand new Mirco. It was no contest.

I think I bought mine around 6 months ago. I just checked. The clear is as hard as a rock. It done cooking.

When you guys are doing swaps / restorations how do you clean the rough under apron metals too big for the tumbler? Just rubbing alcohol the gunk off or anything to further clean / shine /smooth?

Bench grinder/polisher then alcohol to clean.

Dremel with abrasive buffs. I typically use the finest grit unless there is heavy rust/corrosion/oxidation. On straight pieces you can use sandpaper 1000-3000 grit.

Good advice. I never get a good sense of what can be done to keep the sanded/polished metal from corroding again. Is wax enough?

A light coat of rattle can clear will help.

Mother's Mag Polish preserves the metal nicely

You clearly don’t have a big enough tumbler

But Brasso with a microfiber cloth will do the trick too. I use a lot of it on every restore/rehab.

#3138 3 years ago

I recently had a Nugent owner ask if I would create some apron cards for him, so I wanted to offer them to other owners.

I print the cards on a photo quality printer using 6 color OEM inks and thick OEM ultra gloss photo paper. I then coat with a clear gloss vinyl and color the white edges for a finished look when installed.

The cards are $10 per set including postage. If interested in purchasing, please PM me to arrange payment. The cards are made to order, and I'm usually able to send no more than one or two days from day of payment.

Hey all. Does anyone have any potential doner cabinets available for purchase? Looking to build up a StarGazer.

Just to help you out. A Bally cabinet of the era will also work for you. And if Williams play fields are the same size, you could probably use Williams cabinet as well. They are just made out of wood.

I hear you, but having some trouble finding Bally cabs too. No flee markets is making things a little tough right now.

A Bally cabinet is not the same. The hole spacing to secure the head between a Bally and a classic Stern is different.

#3146 3 years ago

Anyone know a source for the long screws and cupped washers that secure the apron to the playfield?

#3147 3 years ago

Any of the big 3 hardware store should have them. The screws are 10-32 fine thread and the cupped washers are just #10's. Ace is your best bet but I've found them at lowes also

It is wood. That would be an easy problem to overcome. But nice to know.

But you do make me question this: Are the back glass size for Bally and Stern the same?

I have a local hardware store that carries a lot of, well, hardware. I think saw some of those in one of the bins. If you don't have any luck send me a PM and I can look for you.

They are not. I recently discovered Bally backglasses are slightly taller. At least my old frontier backglass wouldn’t fit into my Stern Pinball head, but my Stars backglass did
