Was able to look at a 1980 Gottlieb Torch for sale currently priced at $700.

The Good: overall very good condition operates with no malfunctions (spinner, drops, switches etc all great and very clean internally); backglass is perfect; all boards look brand new and have had grounding wires added; playfield 8 out of 10; guy claims ownership since early 1980's HUO quite possible (been in a finished basement no cabinet fade)

The Ugly: Needs cleaning, wax, new rubbers, some burned out bulbs; Left flipper has worn a small scratch where the tip has rubbed the playfield, has groove on top of playfield from plunges, sound board has the wrong ROM (it's the "R" chip and needs to be replaced with the "P"), there is one broken plastic above the right drop targets (hard to source a replacement); playfield glass is pretty scratched up.

I want to get the price down to $500 to have some money for the sound ROM, broken plastic, rebuild flippers, new rubbers and probably LED's, and I don't know what this machine could/should be valued at. Any input from someone more experienced with System1 pricing is greatly appreciated.

That is normally a $300 game, but yours looks really great.

I'm not sure where you would ever find a new set of plastics for it.

Better call PBR before you make a move.

I love my Torchy and will never sell it. $300 is about right, give or take. You'll never make money on it so don't buy it to flip. That broken plastic is broken on all of 'em, by the way. Mine has sentimental value as I blew quarter after quarter in it and Joker Poker which were in my dorm when I was in college. Now they're next to each other in my gameroom along with a few other classics, such as Gorgar, Space Invaders, Firepower...

Called PBR and Steve doesn't currently have anything Torch specific so the plastic is not available right now - super helpful guy, though! Yeah, the broken piece doesn't affect the gameplay so it's not necessarily a deal killer. So back to the price did you get a 100% working machine for $300? If that's the case even the $500 deal (if the seller would even go that low) I'd have to really think about it. Based on his asking price it tells me he sees way more than $300, but I guess it can't hurt to try and make a low offer. The last thing I want to do is overspend on my first machine. I spent more time inspecting the pin vs. actually playing it - so some more play time would probably be worthwhile, too.

EDIT: Just spoke with seller and he's firm on the $500.

Only broken piece is the triangular plastic located above the right hand side drop targets.

EDIT: if you look closely you can see it in the first photo broken/missing above the right two drops on the right side.

Yeah that's one large plastic that attaches to the post at the bottom right of that drop bank. Mine is broken too but you can't really tell as it's still properly held in place. I paid $300 about 7 years ago and repinned a few connectors to get the game to work 100%. As we all know, one pinball machine doesn't cut it, I don't care what game that one machine is. You will get tired and bored with this as you would any game but it really doesn't matter. Pinballs are like potato chips, you can't have just one. So go ahead and buy it for the $500. That's small potatos when you come to the realization that it's really only the beginning...

Yes, you can buy a working Torch for $300.

The one you are looking at has a really nice looking cab and such.

Sooooo, if Torch is "your game" (meaning you loved it as a kid, lost your virginity on top of it, or just like the theme, then buy it for $500.

But, you are never going to make money selling it because they made 4000 of them and it's not a "must have" game for most collectors.

If you love it buy it.
