Here's a few: 1932 Gottlieb Play-Boy, 1932 Gottlieb Five Star Final, non coin-op home edition. 1928 or so "IT"

The interesting thing about Play-Boy is that it has the 2 Free Play holes in each lower corner. It is absolutely original and not a hack. The only other 2 pictures I can find online don't have the Freeplay holes, neither does the ad for the game. I'm thinking it's really early or kind of late.

Quoted from way2wyrd:

ok that is interesting about the Play-Boy ive never noticed. Here are 2 examples. Ones in Texas from TPF and one iss in Florida from Free Play Florida.
I checked my Master Play-Boy and it also has the free play holes

Is one of those yours? I'm curious if the one without the topper shows evidence of it having had one? Mine still has the holes. I assume they all had them but it seems most have gone missing. Mine also has holes from it having had handles on the side but I doubt they were original as I've never seen them on another machine or in ads. I was going to start a thread specific to Play-Boy and post pictures from when it was taken apart but if you guys and gals don't mind I'll post some here.

Jeff
I also noticed the Play-Boy you posted with the free play holes is a ten ball for a penny, where as mine is ten for a nickel,.....the plot thickens!
Edit: the ad I posted shows they come in penny or nickel form. What's interesting in the second picture posted by you is that there is no pricing listed on the playfield!

#151 2 years ago

I just noticed in looking at this ad that Play-Boy Sr. Didn't have a topper. Only Play-Boy Jr. Has the topper.

Another thing I noticed is that Play-Boy Sr. Has ornate carving one the panel where the coin chute is that matches the carvings on the side of the cabinet. Play-Boy Jr doesn't have the ornate carving. So we've established that a Play-Boy Sr. Has no topper and ornate carving on the front of the cabinet. This should make them easier to identify.

No topper and ornate carvings are probably a Play-Boy Sr that lost it's legs at some point. No ornate carvings and a topper means Play-Boy Jr.

Quoted from justincasekazoo:

Long time listener, first time caller--
I have no genuine pre war pins to share but I love seeing everyone else's! Great attention to detail on the restorations.
Although I don't have my own game from the olden days, I did build one a few years ago. I called it "Diamonds" in homage to the diamond shape on Baffle Ball. Like Baffle Ball, landing a marble of matching color in a pocket awards double for that ball. I'll toot my own horn and say I think it's remarkably fun to play, and like has been said, even more fun with money riding on it!!
[quoted image]

I like it. Where did you get the coin chute and shooter assembly? Please post a picture of the sides of the cabinet. It looks like you replicated a machine from stoner manufacturing or another manufacturer from the same period. I'd be interested in where you got your inspiration.

Brought home this one yesterday. It was the one listed in Napa. I'm looking for a 3 screw/bolt nickel slide coin mech. If anyone has any denomination slide coin mech I'd be interested.

Can I see pictures of your playboy?

#305 1 year ago
Quoted from dueyftw:

It is in a stack of Bingo machines. I have no room for them in the bedroom.
Pic 1 is the top of the stack. A Bingo machine.
Pic 2 is second from the top is the back of the Playboy. I drilled the lock, not thinking to find a good lock picker.
Pic 3 is Playboy with a Marquee? or top piece that I found for 50 dollars on eBay. The owner had no clue what it went to.
Notice that my Play-Boy has no holes for the top piece. I'm assuming that the game has two different versions. Also mine came with white balls. most lost during a demo of my machine. I think someone stole them.
I will make a video of all the machines going into my trailer, soon.
I no longer display anything where alcohol is served.

There are actually several variants. I documented them earlier in this thread. see posts 147-154 in this thread. Specifically post 152. There are also playboys with and without "free play" holes. I'm trying to get as many pics as I can to document the changes.

For those of you who have done Baffle Ball or Playboy refreshes-restorations, what did you use when pin replacement is necessary?

Obviously I want to keep it original but if you have missing or mangled nails what did you do?

#318 1 year ago

Another Baffle Ball question that may apply to other games as well. On games that have colored balls, how were they, or how can they be colored. Were they originally just painted? I figure they could be powder coated but everything I've ever seen powder coated was hung from a wire and sprayed. Would powder coating be smooth enough to not tear up the playfield? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Interesting.yours is a 5 ball for 1 cent machine and no free play holes. Does yours have the ornate carvings on the front panel? I think you might have a playboy senior. I don't see evidence of a topper either.

Quoted from dueyftw:

No. There is no carving in the front of the Play-Boy machine. I do have one Bingo that has no holes and a carving of Bingo in the front.
Mine doesn't have a Topper, But I do have one.

Loved the video. Somebody needs to document the differences in the bingo machines, much like I've been documenting Playboy. Very interesting that some have Freeplay holes and some don't. Just like Playboy. Please keep the videos coming.

Does anyone have a good method for getting what looks like water stains off of this baffle ball? I've tried naptha, Howard's feed n wax, novus #2,(very lightly), and flitz, in a test spot. I can always strip it again with naptha if anyone has any recommendations. I'm trying to preserve, not restore it. Howard's feed and wax is doing an amazing job on the cabinet.
