I had a new power quality outlet recorder from work that I wanted to test before using it in a real application, so I decided to use it to monitor the power usage (current draw) on various pinball machines. Each one of the five "humps" represents the average current (each data point is over a one second interval) drawn on a machine while playing one game.

The games played, in order from left to right:

    1. Williams Spanish Eyes with incandescent lamps

    2. Bally Future Spa with incandescent lamps

    3. Bally Embryon with LED lamps and LED displays

    4. Bally The Addams Family with a Color DMD and mostly incandescent lamps

    5. Stern Metallica Pro LED

I noticed a decent difference in power used between Future Spa and Embryon, most likely due to the LEDs used. Anyway, I thought some people may find this interesting.

I bet the LED displays account for a lot of the reduction in Embryon.

Be interesting to measure the before/after (incandescent to LED) on the same game.
