Powder Coat, Gold plate, and Chrome Plate it all

I went crazy and powder coated / gold plated everything. If anyone is interested, it costs about $150 to powder coat an entire machine locally. There are several powder coat shops in almost all local areas. The gold plating is more money. I use Mike Chestnut. It's probably about $500 a machine but his work is fantastic.

The local outfit I use is called "Park's Metal". But you can usually find several in the local area. Williams parts powder coat very easily. Stern parts are pre-coated so have to be sand blasted / stripped first. Honestly, legs and coindoors can be painted if you want to save a few bucks. My local shop usually turns around a single set in a day.

I want to get my Sterns powder coated.

Seems I need to do some research on local companies.

Are small batches really practical for them? Do you choose from what they have on hand or pick out colors from a supplier?

You can do both. They had several colors on hand and a few they didnt have I had to order boxes of powder.

I'm cheap, so I've painted a couple of my machines lockdown bars and side rails.

I use Rustoleum "Hammered Paint"; it's getting difficult to get some colors now though.

There is also Masterchem Hammered Aerosol Spray Paint, which I haven't used...but will probably try next time as it looks like more colors are readily available.

I clean the areas that need it, and paint. The hammered texture covers a magnitude of sins, and is easily touched up as need be.

I repaint dented side rails right on the machine...just bondo the dents, and paint.

The powder coating looks great, but too expensive for me.

johnwart: it's brass as you say.

Robert: I tried paint but it gets easily scratched from things like wedding rings. The powder is not that expensive ($150 a machine for everythjng). If you can afford a pinball that you consider worth the effort then may as well go all out on it

That is way over board with the powder coat. I LUV IT! I'm gonna do my Congo green and Diner red after seeing those. Already did BSD chrome and LOTR brass.

It is a good kind of crazy Markmon.

I think your HS2 turned out great. It really pops. STTNG coin door is not my thing.

I have never seen anyone care for games to the extent Markmon does.

I notice DM is in the sweet spot send me a mail with info.

I might have my GF get a coulpe machines powder coated for my Bday as well.
(if she still needs suggestions for gifts)

No offense, its pretty clear that it takes alot of time and money to have all that done, but they all look as if the Easter bunny threw up in your game room...
TOM and LOTR look pretty sweet, but the color is just horrid on those games.
Just a matter of personal opinion I guess, they are your games and you can do whatever you want to them.
