I went crazy and powder coated / gold plated everything. If anyone is interested, it costs about $150 to powder coat an entire machine locally. There are several powder coat shops in almost all local areas. The gold plating is more money. I use Mike Chestnut. It's probably about $500 a machine but his work is fantastic.

    Here are some pictures:

The LOTR is actually powder coated in this one. Still looks shiny gold:

    Cool!

    Who did the powder coating?

    Quoted from PW79:

    Who did the powder coating?

The local outfit I use is called "Park's Metal". But you can usually find several in the local area. Williams parts powder coat very easily. Stern parts are pre-coated so have to be sand blasted / stripped first. Honestly, legs and coindoors can be painted if you want to save a few bucks. My local shop usually turns around a single set in a day.

I want to get my Sterns powder coated.

Seems I need to do some research on local companies.

Are small batches really practical for them? Do you choose from what they have on hand or pick out colors from a supplier?

A man after my own heart. Drool.

You can do both. They had several colors on hand and a few they didnt have I had to order boxes of powder.

Scared stiff in green was an interesting choice. Looks better than I thought that way
And I like White Water in white. Would look even better with the snowy mountains to match

Tatman, the blue you used on your star trek would be good for your batman.

    #23 11 years ago

    Both of you....that's just spectacular!

    #24 11 years ago

Hey tatman, is that the STTNG for sale at GAP. Markmon and tatman - gorgeous collections. I would never need to leave home again.

    #25 11 years ago

I'm blown away by how nice both of ya'lls collections are and how well maintained they both obviously are! Very nice!

    #26 11 years ago

Wombat yes that is the one GAP has for sale. It is nice with clear coated playfield.

    #28 11 years ago

wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!incredible!! i d like to see more picture of your lotr...just for dreamin. thank you.

    #29 11 years ago

Nice looking machines. I was planning on doing a black STTNG just wasnt sure what it would look like and based on your pics I am moving forward and going to do it.

    #30 11 years ago

I am doing a black TZ now. I am going to install them this week.

    #31 11 years ago

Is that really gold, or is it brass?

Not my taste, but I can appreciate the time and money you've put into doing it all

    #32 11 years ago

I think it's cool! Sets your collection apart from everyone else's.

    #33 11 years ago

I'm cheap, so I've painted a couple of my machines lockdown bars and side rails.

I use Rustoleum "Hammered Paint"; it's getting difficult to get some colors now though.

There is also Masterchem Hammered Aerosol Spray Paint, which I haven't used...but will probably try next time as it looks like more colors are readily available.

I clean the areas that need it, and paint. The hammered texture covers a magnitude of sins, and is easily touched up as need be.

I repaint dented side rails right on the machine...just bondo the dents, and paint.

The powder coating looks great, but too expensive for me.

    #34 11 years ago

johnwart: it's brass as you say.

Robert: I tried paint but it gets easily scratched from things like wedding rings. The powder is not that expensive ($150 a machine for everythjng). If you can afford a pinball that you consider worth the effort then may as well go all out on it

    #35 11 years ago

I like your DM with the custom translite and LED pattern. Nice!

    Here's my "brass" game:

Nothing says bling like brass plated nylon lock nuts

    #37 11 years ago

That is way over board with the powder coat. I LUV IT! I'm gonna do my Congo green and Diner red after seeing those. Already did BSD chrome and LOTR brass.
Thanks for sharing those pics guys

    #38 11 years ago

It is a good kind of crazy Markmon.

I think your HS2 turned out great. It really pops. STTNG coin door is not my thing.

I have never seen anyone care for games to the extent Markmon does.

I notice DM is in the sweet spot send me a mail with info.

I might have my GF get a coulpe machines powder coated for my Bday as well.
(if she still needs suggestions for gifts)

    Drooling as always.

    #39 11 years ago

    Quality collections.

    #40 11 years ago

What would be a good color for power coating my TSPP????

    #41 11 years ago

    "apu's shirt" green, of course

    #42 11 years ago
    Quoted from pzy:

Not a bad idea, but I was also thinking Simpson skin yellow or Duff Beer Red.

    #43 11 years ago

No offense, its pretty clear that it takes alot of time and money to have all that done, but they all look as if the Easter bunny threw up in your game room...
TOM and LOTR look pretty sweet, but the color is just horrid on those games.
Just a matter of personal opinion I guess, they are your games and you can do whatever you want to them.

    #44 11 years ago

Brushed metal or black for me thanks! To each his own. They do look nice! Just not my cup of tea.

I really dig the look on The Shadow and 24. This makes me want to do this with all of mine as well.

    #47 11 years ago

This is what happens when you get bored of playing pinball.

I like how CV looks....most are pretty gaudy, though. Green Shadow? How does that make any sense?

    #48 11 years ago

That is one pristine collection. Love the TOM!

Matches the big green "the shadow" letters on the cabinet art

Never mind, I don't feel like powercoating....
