I have not removed the posts on my slingshots yet, but they look fine as they are now (well, I have played only ca. 10 games on my NIB game, so no wonder they do not show any wear. The game is a November build.

However, in order to prepare for the chipping, please advice on which of the washers should I use? The metal ones or the clear ones (from playfield protectors)? The plastic ones seem to be a bit fatter, but smaller in diameter. They both are not much bigger than the posts, but I think it is a good thing, as I will be putting in the game also a PF protector and I am hoping that they PF protector would not overlap the washers. It might be a really close call though.

EDIT: I also bought a set of black rubber seal washers - might they be of any use? I guess they would be applied under the post (provided the post is ok) and the metal/plastic washer would then not be used?

(I do not have access to rubber washers, so I have to skip that plan and also the star posts would overlap the PF protector I think, so its a no-go.)

Have a look at the pics and thank you for any advice!

Thanks. Would you consider using metal washers under the posts a better alternative to plastic washers?

I might have to get the star posts and rubbers, but as they are not readily available for me, I am trying to use an alternative, which I know not being ideal and not as good as the official fix - but however better than have nothing under the posts.

Quoted from Zora:

Yes, I like the playfield protectors. An additional advantage is that you need no ugly cliffies, because the edges of the map hole and tortuga is protected automatically.

Hmm - is that so really? I have cliffies on order and have a pf protector waiting for install after I receive them. I am waiting for a 4-part cliffies, which I ordered from Europe. So I should rather go on with the install and forget about the cliffies?

Thanks for any info!

There are other places on the PF with the posts as well. I wonder should one rubberize them all, or only the slingshots? There is a hammer and the rubbers under the ramp to the ship atleast. Have a look at the pics.

Do you know is the fix from JJP only for the slingshots or for other posts on the PF as well?

I have my playfield disassembled and waiting currently for some rubber washers. I was wondering if I would just go ahead with the assembly and only add rubbers for the slingshot posts. JJP fix might tell a bit how they see the problem, i.e. is it only slingshot posts related.

Anybody with experience on would this work?
Originals posts, under them a clear washer and narrow rubber.
Or is the sling now too high in comparison to the the ball?
Maybe I should remove the clear washer?

Thank you again for your advice!

Quoted from cheshirefilms:

Just wait for the official service pack kit from JJP, coming this week. Personally, I'm just keeping my game dark at home from now till it's here. Even if the risk is minimal since I installed JJP's firstgen washers..

For me, as an international customer, the JJP support has not been that good in sending out replacement parts. Last time it took 6 months for a replacement part to arrive and now I have waited 2.5 months for parts that I ordered from their webshop. I'd rather do this myself, if I can. Also I have disassembled my PF to put in a PF protector, so my plan was to put rubbers and plastic washers for all the similar posts in the PF...

Quoted from bemmett:

Over the weekend I took my posts off and sure enough at least half those posts had dug into the playfield and were very uneven and had sharp edges. Luckily other than directly under the posts hadn't caused any extensive damage. I sanded down the uneven posts and sourced a small black rubber and put a nylon clear washer under each post. Doesn't look too bad and hopefully will prevent any further damage under them.[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Looks very nice! Can you take a picture with a pinball alongside the slings, so I could compare, how high the sling rubber is in comparison to mine?

Quoted from gumnut01:

Since you are using a playfield protector, do you need to worry about the rubber washer? Do you have any signs of chipping or ripples? I think you will get hammer escapes from the slings. Are you also trying to raise the slings so it hits the ball at the same level it would without the protector?

Yes, the PF protector goes around the posts, I need to add washers as well. I do not have the effects yet, but I have played only ca. 10 games on it. No, the posts just raise a bit with the rubber and clear washer, but as you said, they may be a bit too high up now.

I've started to assemble my playfield and it seems that my idea to put rubber/washer to under other similar posts of the playfield as well was not that well-thought. The post under the Dauntless prohibits the movement of the Dauntless and cannot therefore have any washer, but seemed to work with rubber only. Putting washer/rubber under the posts under the big plastic that's between the chest and the BP makes the chest lean a bit more to the left. I have not yet put the BP in, but I am afraid that the big plastic with the posts alongside the rubber/washer will harm the movement of the ship, so I think of removing the washers/rubber under the big plastic then.

Well, it was nice to experiment

Quoted from Psw757:

Since you had everything torn down the first thing I would have done was inspect all the posts for sharp edges. If any are sharp, file them down smooth.

Today I managed to put it all back together. It seems that it was ok to add rubbers/washers to posts, the only problematic one that I had to leave without was the one under the Dauntless. Yes, the chest is leaning a bit more to left now, but I read a suggestion on the board that it would help with multiballs, so I let that be. Also it seems that it did not hurt the BP movement to put the washers/rubbers under the big plastic after all. When dismantling the PF, there were a couple of good posts in the mix - what a smooth surface and a difference to the regular posts in the PF...
