Hey everyone ! I'm new to pinside and have a tech question on my recently obtained pirates pin.
Everything is in pretty decent shape. However the pirate ship will sink but won't come back up. I have to physically pull it back up every time.
Any ideas on what the issue might be? Or do I bite the bullet and buy a whole new motor??
Thanks in advance for any tips and advice.

May be the clutch plate

I'd check the switch at the bottom of the ship. I remember my ship acting completely odd, and rebuilt it. After I had done all that, I realized that the switch at the bottom of the switch was the only issue.

In test mode, does the ship come up? If not, I agree with steve - probably the clutch plate is worn/cracked.

I'm pretty sure it's just the switch!!! The thin metal piece that is activates the switch is missing! I just need to get a new switch and I should be good to go! I hope!!
On a side note, while looking the ship over I decided to remove all plastics and ramps to do a deep clean!! The play field now looks brand new after 4 hours of cleaning
Pictures will be posted soon!

Cool, good luck with it!

Is the piece of metal laying in the bottom or the cabinet?

Ok, I did find that one of the switches, not the o e at the very bottom that registers a sunk ship but the one on the inner track was missing the metal tab that activates the switch. So I ordered a new one, installed it but the ship still will only sink and not come back up. I do notice that it looks like the ship doesn't go all the way down when it sinks.
Ideas??
Is it the motor?
Clutch??

HELP!

My guess is it's not the motor, otherwise it wouldn't go down at all. Maybe it is the clutch? Unfortunately, I no longer have my POTC to check, can someone help us out here?

I should also note that if the ship is not going down all the way, perhaps it is not activating the switch?

Right. It doesn't look like it goes all the way down.

Hi,
if it's neither the clutch nor the switch you should check
1) the plastic guardrail
2) the relais on the board. Sometime it's hanged off and the motor can not switch to the other direction

Let the ship move down on it's own, then power off the machine. Lift the playfield and check if it's gone all the way down and activated that switch? Or I guess it's easier to leave it powered on and go in the diagnostic menu -> switches and check if the 'ship down' switch is ON.
