I had the same issues years ago. The sound as it added points was kind of funny. It was the ball exit opto from the disk area. The wire ran through a hole and just needed to be reseated under the playfield.

If you don't know what opto it is how do you know it is unplugged? Have you put it in switch edge test?
The one I am talking about is Opto Pair Switch #4 Exit Plunder. In the manual
