Quoted from LesManley:

If you think you can fully experience and appreciate 22 characters with different abilities across the 5 different movies

Sounds like a really bad video game had a bastard child with a pinball machine. Hard pass.

Quoted from Concretehardt:

My thoughts exactly, he ran the last run of WOZ when there was basically no demand for it.

They reran WoZ and removed mechs and increased the price. If they bailed on the monkey, the production nightmare that is potc has very little chance.

And that's before GnR backlog and license considerations.

I would never say never in this industry but I would be very surprised.

That's always a weird automatic putdown on this game, that I never get. The rule minutiae for different characters effects gameplay as much, or as little, as a player can or wants to digest.

If you had anyone step up and play randomly, it makes no difference. If you have an established player have a go, they can craft their gameplay based on character usage.

How in any way is that awful? And in so many compelling ways, it is amazing!

I don't know, it just seems like you paying for the 21 modes you DON'T use. It's like $12 soup at Hale and Hearty, you are paying for the 15 soups you don't want!

There's definitely such thing as too much and this game has it. Too much of everything. Too many spinny and rocking things. Too many rules and too much depth most people will never even play. Too much fuggin' action button.

Is that what people want? Well, they certainly didn't when the game came out. The location player didn't like it, ops couldn't keep it running, and home buyers had little interest.

Two of those things are still true but like I said before, make it big enough and rare enough and a cult will develop behind it.

So many for sale I don't think JJP needs to make any more....

#156 3 years ago

Jack allegedly said on a call two days ago that they have the POTC license for one more year. He said at TPF two years ago that they have the license for a few more years. So that report jives.

My two cents here, but I just can't really see them going through the PITA to make this game again. It's the rarity that is driving up the price, but that does not equal high volume demand. Raising the orice by $3k to run it again will only make pinsiders rage more about company greed. Time to move on.

With the backlog of already existing GnR orders (with more to come), the license will expire on Pirates before a run of games are made and sold. Why train the staff at the new factory to make a game you will only run once?

JJP7 (TS) has been baking for years now and it will be time to release it at the end of this year or early next. There will also likely be another run of WoZ and Wonka somewhere in there.

People had their chance to buy this game. JJP knew they had a great game, but took a beating for the removed 3 discs, locking chest, and production delays that came from it. The company isn't lacking for production work and I doubt feel the need to ingratiate the community that spurned it's release the first time with another run of Pirates.

Medieval Madness, remade. AFM, MB ditto. Now Lebowski lives on, and you are in line for Alien, which was never to be remade. Is JJPOTC less likely than any of these? I don't think so.

Hmm... there are a lot of reasons those aren’t the same thing...

MM, AFM and MB are all time classics that got
remade almost from scratch by a whole new company (more like a business alliance really) whose business model is to remake those classic games.

Lebowski and Alien are more continuing (or re-entering) production, much like POTC would be... but in those cases their companies basically don’t have any other products while JJP has
made it abundantly clear they want to move forward. POTC also had its chance where Alien and Lebowski both got laid low by corporate disaster.

...but never say never!

My point is that there were more obstacles with all of these games than POTC. It would be easier for JJP to source parts and do another run. But their plate is full, which is the main obstacle for now. Licenses can be extended, but another run at the end of this one would make a lot of sense, if JJP dials in two manufacturing lines.

How is that weird? Why not have 200 characters to choose from then or 500? More is better right? At some point it is just too much.

Learning stuff is hard... you are being obtuse. That is like saying why not just go back to bagatelle, maybe just have a plunger and a single hole the ball may or may not go into, right? Less is better?

#162 3 years ago

Did anybody ever accuse anybody else of “being obtuse” before Shawshank?

It’s the movie’s lasting legacy!

Woz ybr uses the later style cabinet. The monkey mech does not fit in it. This has been confirned by a pinsider swapping playfields between versions.

You called me obtuse? lol. Back to solitary for you. Yes of course more is always better we all know that. All you got to do is count coils and that tells you how good a game is.

I prefer Tom Cruise I think aliens live in volcanos style terms like "glib".

Glib just feels more condescending.

The more shit in the game makes a better game people are what they are (toy collectors)... cant argue with them.

Thinking in hindsight, I'd have to think characters = photos here, and asset buying was notoriously fuckered in that deal. So I'm guessing for the appearance of theme integration, they blew up this idea to this degree.

Doesn't affect gameplay if you really ignore it.

Listen, whether you think the game is the greatest of all time or not, objectively it has elements that, depending on what you prioritize in a game, are incredible:
- numerous mechs that give it the overused but apt 'world under glass'
- one of the best upper playfields in pinball
- incredible theme integration for pirates (terrible theme integration for Pirates of the Caribbean)
- subway system that is fun and somehow pirate-y
- pop bumpers that matter
- quirky shots like the under-the-flipper shot that I wish was in all games
- deep code that works for home and not at all on location

I'm not trying to hype up the game. I already sold mine today! If you like theme integration, mechs, and moments in pinball, the game is incredible. If you prize layout and speed, I can totally understand it wouldn't be number one for you.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I miss my game already. Is there a 'used to have a pirates' club?

How much did you get for it?

NO! The BEST upper playfield. It rocks, it has a cannon that launches the ball across the game at another ship, etc.

I would be in that club myself.

Well a Fellow pinsider that was asking me if I’d sell mine just last week ended up buying a used LE... 20k 2 days ago.

Mine is going no where. Game is a master piece and code is not even done... I think the game may get remade, but my gut tells me it WILL NOT be the same.

#172 3 years ago

Frankly, is Jack even calling the shots? Point being I don’t know how much credo you can put into his words.

#173 3 years ago

With all these LE’s selling for so much. What would be a fair price to sell a Standard Edition? Original owner and in excellent condition.
Asking for a friend.

Quoted from Jecco74:

Last year when the LE's were selling for 14k I sold my SE for 9500.

Now I would ask 12-14 for a SE.

Not much missing in the SE's, but everyone just wants a LE.

(mine did have heavy pooling, but it never chipped or had any problems in the 1600 plays we used it).

One sold for 14 K a few days ago on here. I'd recommend asking 15.5 K

I was thinking about 15k or a two for one trade. A Turtles and an AIQ prem/LE's.

do you mean AIQ?

#179 3 years ago

So turtles is 6, aiq prem is 7.5. I'd say either that combo along with another 2 K, or upgrading one or both of those two pins to a higher grade version.

I have an se that has 2200 plays total but was routed for 1800 in earnings. It did have some chipping which cliffys covered but I got approved for a new playfield. I’m just waiting for that. Also, ordered new cab decals because they front one has a small wrinkle by the plunger housing. I still wouldn’t let mine go for less than 15k and that would be a hard choice at that. It’s such an awesome pin.

#181 3 years ago

There is a lot of good talk here.

I look forward to the new titles jack will come up with. (Instead)
I once thought although he would try / he might never surpass woz as his crowning defining game.

However. I believe that has shifted and he’s got the ability to surpass woz.

So again I believe the future is so dang bright we do have to wear shades.

I also have a friend who has a pirates so I know he isn’t letting it go and after covid begins to lift I hope to get time on it frequently.

It’s just my opinion. I got high hopes for jack. What is next baby!

Also if you compare to real rare games. $40,000 large for a Capcom KingPin, Krull ??

If you can find a Capcom Kingpin for $40k, please send the seller to me if you don't want it.
