I have played both, and they provide amazing juxtaposition to each other.
I love TOM for all the reasons everyone loves TOM.
Beautiful, flow through the roof. Wonderful music.
I could probably play it for days even though I couldn't drown my kneecaps in it, cause I find it sort of shallow in it's rule set with a meh wizard mode. It was real intense the first time I go it but looking back it was a real bummer because it was a kinda underwhelming with hindsight. Though, still a super addicting game.
I played a real nice PoTC(The only one I've played) at beach in NH. and I don't find it as visually striking as TOM, but to me, it was still and attractive machine. I put three games on it. My highest being mid 50 millions. A lot of stuff to do to make that compass rose light up. The music upon ball plunge is haunting and I love it! The music during gameplay was good too. I don't mind the stop and go. The shot weren't impossible, but hard. Harder than they should have been, the machine wasn't level. I've never played one that was level so take my review with a grain of salt. I really do like the tortuga spinner and ship. not to mention a real effing hard skill shot.
PAPA has a nice video of Good Mcgreatplayerguy playing a wonderful game and talking strategy. If you haven't seen that video I recommend it.
TL;DR I like 'em both a lot. I'd rather have PoTC.
