I wondered that before as well. Houdini has the super thin targets and they are great. Minimally, you get points and a sound effect for hitting what would normally be a post. Houdini also makes them objectives as well. Spell SEANCE from the 6 "post" targets and you start a multiball. To hit jackpots you have to spell SEANCE in multiball. Spell SEANCE in order to get a super jackpot. This is a super fun mode.
API has went crazy with the thin targets on Oktoberfest - some in curved target banks and some on post locations (the Duck targets). The ducks are a special rule set as well.
