From "Worlds Fair" to "Diamond Jack" an era of classic pinball titles that (IMHO) have the highest regard for the quality of the parts, workmanship and design. How many things manufactured 50 years ago want to come to life and play like new with a little bit of tinkering? I just can't get enough of this timelines 4 way combo of never ending (better than the woodrails) playability, simple but maddening rule set, craftsmanship & artwork. It might just be the caffeine, but if you own one & feel like I do post a pic, as I can't get enough them

    Jeweled Metal Post Games:
    World Fair 4/64
    Bonanza 6/64
    Bowling Queen 7/64
    Majorettes 8/64
    Sea Shore 9/64
    North Star 10/64
    Sky Line 1/65
    Thoro Bred 2/65
    Kings & Queens 3/65
    Hi Dolly 4/65
    Buckaroo 5/65
    Cowpoke 6/65
    Dodge City 7/65
    Bank-A-Ball 9/65
    Flipper Pool 10/65
    Paradise 11/65
    Ice Review 12/65
    Pleasure Isle 12/65
    Hawaiian Isle 1/66
    Ice Show 1/66
    Masquerade 1/66
    Central Park 4/66
    Hurdy Gurdy 5/66
    Mayfair 6/66
    Rancho 8/66
    Hyde Park 8/66
    Cross Town 9/66
    Subway 10/66
    Dancing Lady 11/66
    King of Diamonds 1/67
    Solitaire 2/67
    Hit-A-Card 3/67
    Diamond Jack 4/67

Like Williams metal flipper bats it's hard not to fall in love with Gottlieb's metal posts. They looks so cool all shined up.

Don't forget 1967 melody. Sing along didn't have the metal posts but melody does

A friend has a Sing Along and he traded the metal posts off of a Mayfair and now his Sing Along has them like it always should have.

"Diamond Jack" and "Solitaire" do not have metal posts. The domestic replay version "King of Diamonds", and "Hit-A_Card" do. I think there were a few examples of "Palace Guard" which had metal posts, but I believe they phased them out during that run. "Bonanza" also did not come with metal posts. The playfield photos on IPDB show a playfield with metal posts, but as is noted by the IPDB editor, these aren't original.

I'm of the opinion that Bonanza did come with the nickel plated posts. The two play fields pictured there are of different games. And the one I looked at a while ago had them also.

Not sure why he thinks they aren't original.

Is that Ice Revue clear coated? looks great!

    Quoted from boilerman:

Is that Ice Revue clear coated? looks great!

Yes, it is. Kind of suits the ice rink feel. I always prefer original, not cleared, but on certain games I like the look of clear coated p/f's. Only one I have that is cleared like this.

looks great I am not a clear coat hater. if done right it will look just fine. I just saw a huo gtb airport with less than 4000 plays on it. it was taken care of and it had the a shine and play like it was clear coated.

I bought some from pbr last year - second hand but very nice.

Here are a couple of mine. I used up my old buffer polishing all the playfield posts.

There was a pretty decent "Bonanza" at last year's York show, and as I recall it did not have metal posts. No one on "Pinball Owners" has photos of a Gottlieb "Bonanza" so that we could check.

My first 60's game. I was worried that the posts would not clean up. I tried cleaning one by hand with metal cleaner, novus 2, etc., and it didn't have any effect on the cloudy surface. Tumbling them for 3 days did the trick!

That game looks great. I just picked up a "BQ" to replace the one I sold at Pintastic. I'm glad to have one back in the fold. Really miss the one I let go. It'll need some work, but it should turn out nice.

Those are the earlier type of metal posts. The base part doesnt have the screw channel cast into it as do the later ones. They used a washer to help stabilize the base of the post. I believe it was during the run of "North Star" that they started using the improved post base. During the "North Star" run, they also switched from the domed "dead" bumper cap to the slanted flat top type.

Thanks for the compliments...yes it was repainted by a local guy who has a side business restoring the cabs. I prefer original but he was interested in preserving a mural of sorts that someone drew over an entire side in 1974. His paint job looks very nice.

    #49 8 years ago

I took about 2 months to finish it all
