Do you love restoring pinballs? Is resurrecting a pinball machine bound for the dumpster one of your life's missions? Maybe you just love a bargain or can't afford those 'nicer' pins. Whatever the reason, this is the hangout to post project machines you have found or any that you have for sale.

Project pinball machines listed on Pinside, CL, eBay or all others with contact information appropriate.

There are no set rules for this thread, other than those prescribed by Pinside, but please follow these guidelines:
Please be courteous and thank/upvote the original poster if you find the post helpful. Please list Manufacturer, game name/type, year, cost and location in the pinball machine in the post. And, of course, post a link or contact information. Please also add any major defects/problems or major positives.

There are other threads for 'nice' pinball machines. Please post the nicer pins there:

Some nice looking EM classics just came up on CL
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/some-nice-looking-em-classics-just-came-up-on-cl

Some nice looking EM classics just came up on ebay
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/some-nice-looking-em-classics-just-came-up-on-ebay

Some nice looking early SS classics just came up on the Interwebs
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/some-nice-looking-early-ss-classics-just-came-up-on-cl

My hope is that project pinballs can find a good home with a Pinsider who will treat it with the care and respect that these old works of art and mechanical magnificence deserve.

If you only want to post a link, do so - only guidelines here. But please be aware that any additional information you can add will save others from clicking a link to a trashed machine they have no interest in.

As always Caveat Emptor! Be careful out there!

Go get 'EM guys and gals!

**I was unable to complete this transaction at the asking price**
This posting on CL has been around for months. The seller didn't respond to my first offer, but responded to my second. He has now updated the ad with pictures of the pins and combined the four pins into one package. I am posting it here for you hard-core restoration guys/gals. There are no plug and play pins as far as I can tell. This could be a real bargain for the right buyer - definitely project machines here!

Since the term "nice" is in the title of all of those threads, I thought that this thread would be a good place to post pins that were "not so nice." Besides, some of us don't want to wade through posts of nice machines that we can't afford. It was not my intention to step on any toes.

How can you go wrong at $150? This would be a great first time project for someone in the NJ area or a cheap pickup for a collector.

**STAR TRIP PINBALL MACHINE BY GAME PLAN in Kentucky sold for $46.99**

Quoted from dmbjunky:

I'll try to watch for projects to post here. Good idea for a thread.

Thanks dmbjunky.

Quoted from dmbjunky:

It's missing the flippers and some art. Might make a nice coffee table.

I saw that cocktail pin and decided not to post it because it was missing so much. But you are right, it could be a nice conversation piece of art or parts machine. Thanks for adding it.

Quoted from dmbjunky:

This ad has been on CL for a long time. He's looking for trades but also has prices listed.

A lot of these machines hang around for a while before being purchased. It's nice as a buyer not having to be the first in a long line of buyers or constantly looking for deals. Of course, that has a lot to do with pricing. Some of these sellers want to sell their projects for working pin prices! Perhaps a little bit of "education" is required with appropriate offers.

I often want to end these posts with "for the right person, this pinball would be a great purchase." Project pinball machines aren't for everybody, but for some of us, they are a diamond in the rough just waiting to be brought back to life.

Thanks again for the projects you have found and posted.

Welcome times two Ryan and thanks. I've played 'Travel Time', in a laundromat of all places! It takes a lot to get used to "beating the clock" instead of playing with a fixed number of balls. It is just so contrary to everything I've ever learned about how to beat a pinball machine. There are times when it is best to let the ball drain.

I didn't really like it much at the time, but this is a game that I could warm up to if I played it long enough to learn all of the tricks. It certainly is novel.

Project Space Invaders Game

I am surprised that no one has jumped on this one. I know I would if closer, but I am a sucker for project pins and widebodies. I can live with a few imperfections at that price!

Hope you find someone who can bring this back to life. It's a classic and fun to play.

Welcome Madmax541!

Welcome jdoz2! Thanks for posting your Eight Ball Deluxe LE project pin here.

Quoted from pantherpinball:

Is it getting harder to find Projects?

According to this article:

"Pinball Gets Glory In News Coverage, Site Launches And Museum Exhibit"
http://www.vendingtimes.com/ME2/dirmod.asp?sid=EB79A487112B48A296B38C81345C8C7F&nm=Vending+Features&type=Publishing&mod=Publications%3A%3AArticle&mid=8F3A7027421841978F18BE895F87F791&tier=4&id=2651BE1548CB4668958E210C48E1C1A2

The "modern-day peak production of 100,000" pinball machines occurred in 1993.

And according to this article:

"Pinball Machines | By The Numbers
http://www.bmigaming.com/pinballmachinesbythenumbers.htm

The "estimated life span of a modern pinball machine" is 30 years. Add 30 years to the peak production year and you get 2023, eight years from now. So, no, I don't think it will be harder to find pinball projects until the mid 2020s. And that is good news for project pinball lovers everywhere.

Quoted from beelzeboob:

But why does it matter? If you've converted it back to US voltage, and the whole machine--boards, cabinet, PF, EVERYTHING--has been restored or replaced, then it's not even really the same machine it was overseas, is it? I wouldn't even really feel an obligation to call it a reimport at that point if I sold it. For all intents and purposes, it's a brand new machine. Who cares where it came from?

Welcome Bboob! Full disclosure?? Good question.

#169 3 years ago

That trip overseas and back can't be a good thing for a pinball machine. The added stress can break things, which doesn't matter if fixed, but will the added stress prematurely age the machine? Will these machines have more problems in the future? Those are the questions that matter. I would guess that SS and DMD pinball machines would be particularly sensitive to the extra stress.

Zipper Flippers on that machine also!

It's a shame these were abandoned in the 70's. I can guess they are a mechanical nightmare on route but they are so cool.

Quoted from too-many-pins:

If anyone in my area is looking for Dixieland I have a decent one with a pretty nice backglass for sale here in Carlisle, PA for $400.

Welcome too-many-pins! Thanks for posting your Dixieland for sale here - sounds like a better deal than the other one that has a cracked backglass.

Manufacturer: Allied Leisure
Game/Type: Disco '79 / SS Cocktail
Mo/Year: June 1979
Production: Unknown
Cost: $250
Location: Bernal Heights (San Fransisco), CA
Link/Contact: sfbay.craigslist.org link

Condition: OP: "This is a project machine I don't have time for anymore, so looking to pass it on. These machines were incredibly rare, so parts are hard to come by, but the boards in this machine are in great shape, though there seems to be a wiring issue. This comes with a new, switching power supply (replacing the old linear one), and the machine powers up and starts tests, though gets stuck. The playfield plastics were removed for cleaning, but are in tact (and clean), and a brand new set of playfield rubber pieces with part maps comes with it as well. More pictures available on request.
