A few months ago I was able to snag my project pin (thanks, contributors to this thread!!) and I tried for a while to pay it forward, but you guys are good! Not much gets by you. I finally found one that might be able to find a good home:

Manufacturer: Williams
Game/Type: Dealer's Choice / EM 4 Player
Month/Year: March 1974
Production: 8,850
Cost: $375
Location: Calera, AL
Contact/Link: huntsville.craigslist.org link

Condition: It is a 4-Player game that has been in my family for over 20 years. It is very clean game for its age. Good play field with minor wear. Back glass is nice with no flaking as shown in the photos. Cabinet is in very good shape. This machine was played by my kids until they left home about 10 years ago, and hasn't been used since. It currently needs some attention to get it fully working again, but it can't be much. It turns on, lights up but is stuck in 1st player mode.

Month/Year: September 1973
Production: 3,677
Cost: $400
Location: Chalmette (New Orleans), LA
Link/Contact: neworleans.craigslist.org link

OP: Williams Darling pinball machine. It does work, needs some tweaking. Play field is in good shape for its age, cabinet is good as well but it does have marks but nothing really bad, back glass art is also in good condition. Needs a little work, but the bones of it are solid and it does play.

Those coin slots remind me of those old table top juke boxes. I wonder if Atari bought a bunch of NOS juke box coin slot mechanisms for cheap.

It works well and is a pretty fun pinball game. Only problem with it that I know of is that two of the bonus lights (the "L" and "D") in Old Chicago have gone out. Shouldn't be too hard to replace them but it also doesn't affect game play.

This machine has had the head rebuilt by me and it's ready to go. The mech board needs to be looked at and the playfield and it's underside.
It did play not too long ago ..but the reels needed cleaning and reseating so all that has been done.

Welcome newmanoconnor! I played two brand new Atari pinball machines when they first came out and was impressed with them. There were no rollover switches! One was The Atarians and the other might have been Middle Earth. Too bad they were always 'Out of Order' even back then.

Quoted from newmanoconnor:

I would love this, but I've always been scared of Atari machines. Parts availability and who knows how to do the board work if it's beyond me...

I, like you, am leery of getting one - concerned that I couldn't fix it. Maybe someone will make replacement boards for them one day.

I believe that there is a guy on ebay that will repair both the main boards for about $100 each. Middle Earth is a beautiful machine. Might not be the fastest in my collection, but it has the best art.

Bit of flaking in the backglass, a few wear marks in the playfield but it'll probably clean up alright. MPU is covered in acid but the owner claims it still works
