This one is right near where I am and I've been trying to get the seller to tell me where the address is.
They haven't been the best at communicating; I'd message them during the timeframe they want and then they'd respond "oh, today doesn't work". So who knows if I'll have better luck tomorrow.

Making my best guess here, that this is a project, and that it’s going to have to sit a while before the seller moves on the price.

Crazy how the glass broke at a right angle like that. Didn't know that they didn't use tempered glass for the backglass, like Gottlieb did. I guess because of the lift channel along the bottom edge?

'70s Gottlieb backglasses are tempered. I found out the hard way with a "Target Alpha" glass a while back.

Tempered playfield glass was standard starting in 1964 (per the Pinball Compendium). I can't imagine that manufacturers would use tempered glass on the main cabinet and not in the backbox.
Quoted from TopMoose:Tempered playfield glass was standard starting in 1964 (per the Pinball Compendium). I can't imagine that manufacturers would use tempered glass on the main cabinet and not in the backbox.
Sure they wouldn't, because tempered is more expensive, and backbox glass isn't expected to be removed nearly as often (only to change bulbs in the EM era, and some GTBs didn't require the glass to come out for even that); is easier to handle and place on such relatively rare occasions; and isn't subject to spills, drops, bangs, etc like the pf glass. So I can see why it wasn't changed. But whatever the rationale, I had a Night Rider EM with a cracked & fractured backglass which definitely wasn't tempered, and was made in 1976.
I've encountered at least a couple cracked glasses. I don't recall the specific titles off-hand, but they were early solid state.

I've restored an Eight Ball in worse condition. Wish I was closer, I'd give it a go.
One of my Aladdin's Castle pins had a crack in the corner of an otherwise perfect BG. Seems except for some water damage on my Eight Ball (CPR replacement took care of that), I find the mid to upper 70s Bally backglasses have very good paint adherence but were suspectible to cracks and are not tempered.
I think most manufacturers were using tempered glass from around 1979 or slightly before. Seen many blown up.
Sorry to interrupt this fascinating discussion with a project pin...

I think Bally started using tempered when they reduced the thickness from 3/16" to 1/8". My Paragon and Globetrotters (both 1979) are 3/16", and I've seen a broken Paragon glass that was not tempered. Also seen a busted Future Spa (Late '79) that was 1/8" tempered. Between Globetrotters and Future Spa was Dolly Parton. Don't know if it was made in 3/16" or 1/8" or both.
Also have seen a shattered Strikes and Spares that was tempered. But it could have been a repro. I think originals are 3/16" non-tempered.
Quoted from Friengineer:Nothing gets the blood flowing like a tempered glass discussion! Is it hot in here?!
If it gets too hot, we can always smash the tempered window and get a good breeze flowing through.

Yep, I remember! It plays great - I have one rollover switch that needed a little extra cleaning and adjusting and that was it. Have had 0 issues with it, though my collection has grown so much since then it doesn't get as much playtime. Grail pin for me, and I found a very good replacement BG too for $100 - no crack. I kept the crack one though, since it is otherwise perfect.

I have several hundred SS pinball machine circuit boards I would be willing to sell as a lot. As of right now I don't have a list (or pictures) but I can tell you it is between 25 and 30 stor-all boxes full of various SS boards PLUS MORE. Basically an assortment of anything and everything from the very early SS stuff up to Williams System 11 machines.
This stiff is "truly untested" and I know very little about most of it. As things stand right now I only want to sell it all as one lot. I don't want people "cherry picking" the best stuff and then having a bunch of so-so stuff in the end. (This stuff has never been picked through except for us pulling a board or two from time to time for our own use). These boards came to me from several warehouse buyouts, parting out dozens of machines over the past 10 or 12 years, and buying some of the best used boards we could find at various pinball shows. This was our "personal stash" of boards for doing repairs on machines we were selling but we have gotten away from doing that so we really don't need these anymore.
I am looking for someone "fairly local" or we could meet at either the Allentown or York PA pinball shows. WAY TOO MUCH STUFF TO EVEN CONSIDER SHIPPING!
Once I get everything in one place I'll have a better idea what all is included but I know there are several System 11 MPU's, dozens of Classic Bally & Stern Boards, dozens of earlier Gottlieb & Williams boards, All kinds of displays including a few untested DMD's & some tested DMD with a line or two out, Classic Bally & Stern Displays, Classic Williams Displays, Classic Gottlieb Displays and also a few dozen NOS Gottlieb display glass, as well as some "oddball" displays like the ones used in System 80B machines and GOD only knows what else!
As far as price I am thinking somewhere in the $5000 to $6000 range for everything (basically about 20 to 25% of realistic retail value) but I'll have a better answer on that as I get everything in one place. I know I have a habit of putting the "cart in front of the horse" but to keep stuff moving as quickly as possible I like to let my "local pinball buddies" know what is coming next.
We have sold most of our collection / I sold my pinball parts business a couple years ago / I sold our library of Pinball manuals last year & now it is finally time to clear our these boards & the rest of the pinball stuff still hanging around.
ALSO - Instead of doing a second post - sometime in the future we will have our excess Skee Ball machines parts for sale. That will be mostly Control Boxes (working & untested) / displays / various other parts & a few dozen ORIGINAL Skee Ball Balls. Once I get to the Skeeball stuff again I'll be looking to sell it all as one big lot.
Did you and Wayne remove the batteries from the boards before storing them? Do you think the number of boxes would fit in a mini van?
Quoted from Billc479:Did you and Wayne remove the batteries from the boards before storing them?
Good point.
Quoted from Billc479:Did you and Wayne remove the batteries from the boards before storing them? Do you think the number of boxes would fit in a mini van?
Most - if not all - the batteries were removed from these boards before the went into "deep storage". Typically the first thing we do when buy machines, boards, etc, is to remove any batteries or battery holders that had any damage to prevent any further damage to boards. Some boards came to us with battery damage so some are going to be "parts boards" or boards in need of more major repairs. Other boards are perfect as far as any visible damage.
We have grabbed boards out of this stuff - toss game chips into them and installed them into a machine and had them work 100%. Other times Wayne has had to spend several hours repairing one before we could use it. So it is truly I full mix of boards in various conditions. About 50 to 75% of these came to me after Wayne had lost interest in the hobby so a good many of them he never even looked at let alone anything done to them or tested. Same thing with the majority of the displays. Stuff that was tested is labelled the rest is as it was found.
For you guys that don't know the "back story" Wayne is my son & he does 100% of our board work. He totally lost interest in the hobby about 3 years ago and I have basically been "on my own" ever since. So I am just trying to clean house with this stuff. I have moved over to the Model Railroad hobby again so I really don't need all this pinball stuff taking up space. But I am also not going to "give it away" just because I would like to gain the space back.
It drives me totally crazy knowing this stuff is sitting here and could be helping someone so that is my primary reason for offering them for sale.
As far as "volume & weight" I don't see any reason it wouldn't all fit into the back of an empty mini van. But I doubt you would have a lot of extra space once loaded.
