Offered to buy it but he was stubborn and refused offers, and also had posted earlier about getting help fixing it and got very rude when I tried to help him and explain making 4 threads for one problem is counter-productive.
It’s not even in the Pinside database and seems fairly unknown

It is on IPDB

When Robin built the Pinside database he left out the flipperless pins on purpose.

Never been to an estate sale. How do they work? Are they auctions or like a garage sale?

Quoted from wayinla:

Like a garage sale, but they don't usually negotiate the price unless it's the last day of the sale.

Also, at some sales, they only let a certain number of people in at a time, so if you don't get there early, you might be stuck waiting on line.

I've never been to an estate sale before, but I have seen some sales show a little flexibility as far as pre-arranging a price (usually on the high side) before the official sale starts.

There is one for a TSPP in WI right now that is an estate sale but is a silent auction. Buy it now price is $9K but offers start at 50% of buying price. A strange set up if you ask me, but this isn't typical either.

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/602055117455286/

It never hurts to reach out beforehand. Each sale is slightly different from what I know, which admittedly isn't much.

Nice looking Gottlieb Silver. Lots of new goodies. Minutes left with a price of $495. No reserve and no bids? Weird. Only concern is no lockdown bar pictured.

It was automatically relisted but looks like it was pulled. Seller probably expected some competitive bidding and got nothing. That's a scary feeling.

Contact the seller and make a <$495 offer. Worst they can do is say no.

To me it's one of those situations where if you are local it's a smoking deal. Distance kills many a deal. I like it but not enough to add in shipping.

Here's how a pinball machine is sold at an estate sale these days:

You'll show up at the sale and find the game, usually in the basement. The pin may have been advertised as working, but it won't be. It will be priced twice what a decent example is worth, even if it's a beater. You'll flip the power switch and the GI lights will come on, but nothing more. If you're lucky, the displays may show the game number, "adjust failure", or the like. You'll ask about the keys, but they're nowhere to be found, so no way of checking out the boards. You'll find evidence that the game hasn't been played in years - flipper bats at odd angles or missing entirely, broken and rotted rubbers all around, rusty balls trapped on the playfield. Despite this, you'll ask if it works, and they'll tell you "we were just playing it last night", all evidence to the contrary. You'll make a fair offer based on the condition of the machine, and they'll tell you "there's someone on their way right now from upstate who offered full price." You'll leave empty-handed and disgusted, and the more estate sales you go to, the more you'll see it play out exactly like this time after time.

Many times estate sales are like this, but there are exceptions.

Sometimes they start with a really high price day one. Let’s say they want $4,000 for a Paragon on Thursday, but they advertise 25% off day two and 50% off day three. Paragon doesn’t sell Thursday, so it’s $3000 on Friday, but doesn’t sell. Saturday morning doors open at 9:00, Paragon is $2,000, and estate sale closes at 4:00. You show up 2-3:00 and make an offer.

I called an estate sale an hour after they posted a Robo War in an upcoming sale. I called and asked the price. She said the seller was thinking $1,000, but would probably take $500. I offered $600 and offered to pay right now with a credit card $600 plus cc fees. She doesn’t accept cards and offered to hold it for me until last day if the sale Saturday as I was driving five hours to get it. Yes I did buy the pin.

Another time I called about a DE Time Machine and estate person quoted $600 over the phone.

Estate sales are a lot like finding a $200 Mata Hari for sale on CL/FB 15 minutes after the ad went up. You contact the seller, but rarely get the great deal. There are just too many of us looking for pins for everyone to come away happy. I bought four of my ss pins in my collection for $200 or less. Keep searching for deals and you will find them.

Lol. That's exactly the situation that happened with the Phoenix I bought last weekend. To the "T". Except I bought it from the guy who got it from the estate sale. Check out the flipper rubbers. And one slingshot also had rubber bands on it.

I bought a game where someone used ponytail holders as rubbers in a few places.

#21440 2 years ago

Sometimes you get lucky. I scored a very nice condition Happy Clown a few weeks ago for $400. I showed up early while the other pinheads only called to say they’d pay a lowball price if the pin doesn’t sell. And the $400 was only $50 more than the low ballers had offered. But, I was there, friendly and helpful.
