I was just offered a Bally Fireball home edition. It's located 6 miles from downtown Pittsburgh. Works at times. Seller claimed to paying $600 to have in repaired a few years ago (!). It will go pretty cheap. PM for seller phone number.

Too good to be true?

Too good to be true?

Probably a legit ad. I bought a TX Sector advertised for $75, and I know a local collector that bought a Funhouse for $50. People are moving and are in a hurry to sell their 250 toy they no longer use.
A sent a message to the seller but I didn’t see the ad until an hour after it was posted.

Nice looking Firepower in Houston: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1079382692888660

I would get it, but I can't get down there until Saturday and the seller doesn't seem to want to hold on to it that long.

Not from the east zone. They don't ship between the zones. Here's the map.

Good question. I can't find any 1930's slang references to the "6-7/8".

It could be a hat size reference but that doesn't make any sense.

Being "this close" to lucky number 7 ?

I'm stumped.

It must have some reference to pop culture at the time. I was able to find a reference to a 1939 Looney Tunes cartoon where Porky Pig played a policeman. The car number he arrived at the haunted house he was investigating in was car number 6 7/8.

I found a bunch of references in cartoons for 6 7/8...
Woody Woodpecker Slingshot 6 7/8.
boxing match scene "standing in this corner at 6 7/8"

#20480 2 years ago

6 7/8 is obviously a put down or a disparaging way to say someone or something is “just short” of normal or complete but not sure how it would fit the context of its use on “Fantasy”.

Need some more “older” timers than me to chime in because Google is not much help with this.

“Jeepers Creepers” is the Porky Pig cartoon. Search for the unedited ending version.

#20481 2 years ago

Slingshot 6 7/8 is apparently a parody of the movie Winchester ‘73.

I keep finding more references to 6-7/8’s

Such as a Jazz band, and all sorts of stuff.

There’s got to be a meaning behind it

Huh. If it was closer I'd be all over that. But I'm already making a 20 hour round trip next weekend for my next project.

Some charm much better than others

My ex wife had charm at one time.

There is a reason she is "ex wife" the charm can wear off rapidly.

From the way I'm reading that it looks like a ball through lanes 6-7-8 will win an extra ball.

Doesn't seem like much of a project but a popular pin on the cheaper end of pricing. Especially in these crazy price times.
