Backglass is blown out and it's missing the plastic over the "slot machine reels".

Playfield is in good shape.

Quoted from scootss:

How do estate sales typically work? Is there a set price on an item?
(and they don't show that price on the site...?)

Estate sales used to be a good place to pick up a reasonably priced pin but those days are generally gone. Here's what you're likely to find now:

Pin is priced at top dollar for an average worn example. Or, for a very nice example, price is stratospheric.

Pin either doesn't work at all, powers just the GI lamps on, or boots on to "adjust failure" state. No keys usually to be found, so no way to open backbox and check for battery leakage. Whatever the case, they'll tell you that "we were just playing it last night" even when this is an absolute impossibility, i.e. no balls in the trough.

You make a lower offer and they'll tell you that "someone is on their way from upstate right now with an offer for the full price". The roads from upstate must forever be filled will people that are on their way to pay full price at estate sales.

It's like these people have a script of lies that they read from.

Thanks for the many responses on the state of estate sales. Greatly appreciated.

Funny as hell you mentioned this! Same shit here in the Chicago area. You have to call their bluff, on the spot, and get the homeowner involved if they are there. I went to look at a Stern Lightning at an estate sale. It was marked $1200, GI was the only thing that came on. I offered $500 on the spot. Lady tells me there was a group earlier that will be coming back for it at full price. I ask was there a deposit left, she says no. I notice a gentleman in the background just observing everything in the house and I ask him if he is the homeowner. He says no, this was his father's house. We chat and find out he was in charge and everything has to go. I say , can you come with me for a second? He follows me over to the lady at the table and I again offer the $500 for the machine. She starts making excuses and the guy goes will you take it now. I came home with a $500 Stern Lightning.

Some of these Estate people are up to dirty tricks and ruthless behavior. They purposely save or lie about the good stuff because they will have their people come in and scoop it up on the last day for 50% off.

The reason that they lie about other people buying it later that day, etc. is that they get paid a percentage of the sale. Would you prefer 15% of $500 or $1200?

P.S. My favorite estate salesman quote. “Oh...pinballs hot.”

I disagree. If the price is posted, where is the harm? Don't like the price? Walk. Sales people try to create demand and sell for top dollar---if they are good sales people. It is no different than an auctioneer trying to get the best price for his client.

Around here, estate sales set the price for 100% price on day 1. Then a 25% discount on day 2. And then another discount on day 3. Don't like today's price? Wait until tomorrow---and hope what you are wanting is still there.

Some will take an offer. Some won't.

One tactic that works well if an item overpriced. Let's say the sale is F/Sat/Sun, with a 50% off the last day Sunday. They want $1500 for a Meteor on day one. Don't wait until Sunday, arrive two hours early and stand in line. Go Saturday 30 minutes before they close, and ask if you can buy it today for 50% off instead of having to return the next day. They'll usually make you wait until they close and then give you the 50% off, just in case someone else shows up willing to pay full price today.

Then your fellow local collectors will show up Sunday, stand in line and not get the pin!

Now that we know your secret, you’re gonna have to put up yer dukes for the next $2,000 Ro-Go at an estate sale in Sheboygan.

Not sure why this concept is so harm. This can apply to dealing with other pinsiders as well. Yesterday I contacted one I have dealt with before about projects. After a bit of discussion they offer 4 project SS games at little over half their finished value. For me that was too high given that all 4 machines are dead. I wished them well and still do. If the deal doesn't make sense just walk away, it isn't the end of the world.

They are not gone, they are just priced 3-5x higher than they used to be and referred to as "player's" quality

Lol true!
I’m just looking at that example and I’m thinking what would I do with it project wise? Wax it and change the rubber?

I guess we have different concepts of projects.

Some of these Estate people are up to dirty tricks and ruthless behavior. They purposely save or lie about the good stuff because they will have their people come in and scoop it up on the last day for 50% off.

When my father passed away we hired an estate sale company that was prolific in the area.
They turned out to be total scumbags. They discouraged us from attending because they said “it can be difficult to let go of sentimental items”

We went on the first day and noticed lots of interesting, popular items still sitting around. Some didn’t even have prices on them, yet other stuff was already gone. We also knew where these people lived and saw some of my Dad’s things in their front lawn.

Those scumbags would put outrageous prices on the thing THEY WANTED and would “buy” it themselves on the last day when nobody took them. Snowblowers and log splitters?? Absolute bullshit they “didn’t sell” small engine machines sell like crazy. Up here people buy snowblowers year round. Other things they would put piss-low prices on and practically give away

We threw them out and canceled the sale once we realized their scam, estate sales are a dirty business. If you really want a particular item, the people running the sale are just looking for their cut so either use that to your advantage or contact whoever is executor of the estate and deal with them. The executor just wants LESS STUFF to deal with, so any way to bring in money and get rid of large items is a win-win.
