I went to look at a target alpha today. It was "kind of" working. It needed a lot of love, a couple inserts, rubbers, a big time cleaning, etc. He was stuck on $400, but I passed. If anyone is interested, it is listed in Dallas, TX on Facebook.

ESTATE SALE - TH 01/20 - SAT 01/22
Manufacturer: Bally
Game/Type: Capt. Fantastic and The Brown Dirt Cowboy / EM 4 Player
Mo/Year: September 1975
Production: 16,155
Location: Plano, TX
Link/Contact: https://www.estatesales.net/TX/Plano/75093/3155424

I personally know the owners of this estate sale. They will take offers/bids

#22125 2 years ago
Quoted from undrdog:

They haven’t returned my call.

The sale starts tomorrow morning and you live close. I would recommend going and making an offer. They price reasonably and they do discounts each day...but if you make an offer they might go ahead and take it.

#22136 2 years ago
Quoted from bluespin:

I’ve contacted maybe 100 estate sales people. In the beginning I emailed them, and sometimes I received a response. If I follow up with a second question regarding their answer I usually don’t get a response. When I text I always get a response. It’s quicker for them to reply to a text then to find the time to call you back, leave you a message and wait for you to call them back, etc.

Can confirm. I own an estate sale business.

Quoted from Ryguy80:

I agree with this. Between gas and the grocery bill becoming higher, luxury assets will become disposable. I’m debating about picking up some seasonal summer hours somewhere, in addition to my normal 9 to 5, to cover cost increases. With all the companies offering signing bonuses and increased wages because they can’t get employees, it’s become lucrative.

I wish you were closer. I need some people for my business.

Seller says it isn't working, and backglass has damage. Not sure on playfield since the pictures aren't great and it's dirty.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

I would 100% get this if I was closer. I owned paragon for a long time and have played numerous examples.

The triangle of numbers at the bottom and the Paragon inserts are where almost all damage is on these, and I see very little. Granted, it is dirty, but I would bet a sizable hunk of money that the PF is REALLY good and will clean up well

Agent_Hero Why did you down vote me for sharing your ad? I was trying to promote your sale and didn’t make any comments about it.

Quoted from Agent_Hero:

If I wanted this shit show of a discussion, I would've made it an open-forum post rather than an announcement. You posting it here, as expected, brought out the misinformed price police accusing me of making a buck on a sale (the horror!). I know this thread exists and if I wanted exposure for it in this thread, I would've cross-posted it here.

Makes no sense!

Quoted from metalguy:

They probably don’t know how to take the glass out.

I asked them if the mouse nest is free of charge.

Waka Waka Waka Waka!

I'm pretty sure they don't know how to remove the glass

#24296 1 year ago
Quoted from bluespin:

or the mouse nest.

I'm debating whether or not I should make an offer. He is obviously WAYYYY overvaluing this game for its condition. What do you think would be a realistic offer?
Would it be worth making an offer at all?

#24299 1 year ago
Quoted from bluespin:

If the playfield is discolored because of mouse piss you have to worry about hanta virus. Id offer $20-100 depending on condition of glass, cabinet, coin door and playfield. Most people won’t go look at it because of the mouse nest.

I may just let it sit for a month and then think about it.

I like the game, but the money and time needed to put into it...are prohibitive.

#24302 1 year ago
Quoted from cottonm4:

I played an On Beam at Cactus Jack's in Oklahoma City. For 3 or 4 games and moved on.
I took a look at your collection. Save your gas money unless you are looking to flip.

Even if it was free...there's no meat on the bone to flip!

I've never owned one, and I've just played it once or twice before. They DEFINITELY aren't found in the wild, either...so I would likely have to buy one if I ever want to play it again.

#24316 1 year ago

If I were closer, I would definitely go look at it. It looks R-O-U-G-H, though.

At the price these are going for these days...if one of you guys are nearby, you should really go check it out.

#24343 1 year ago

Quoted from ClarkGriswold:

No kidding. I owned that title once. All around, it is just awful.

Quoted from pookycade:

I owned Motordome off route in 1987. Paid $500. Only pin to depreciate in value over 35 years ! It looks like it should be fun, it has all the boxes checked, but it just isn’t.

I've owned well over 100 pinballs, and it is easily one of the worst I've ever had. Mine was MINTY...but the game only has 1 shot. That's it. Boring.

Cab is solid, paint is bad. BG is shot. Boards are easy enough to fix.
2500 is a ridiculous number unless you are doing a museum quality restoration or just throw new shit st it because you can't do your own repair.
[quoted image]

2500 may be ridiculous, but 400 million hours definitely sounds a touch high. Im guessing 399 million hours...at most.

#25555 3 months ago
Quoted from sullivcd40:

I just did a Flash Gordon hardtop with cabinet repair and paint that took a ridiculous amount of time, maybe not 400 million hours but a lot. Granted, all but 2 of the coils had melted shut and the sdb had been on fire at one point, so maybe I’m a little jaded, but it’s a ton of work regardless. Fortunately I was able to rebuild the ldb and squawk and talk but the mpu was toast and I always build new rectifiers because Andrew sells them cheap.
And $2500 is not ridiculous if you put in a new playfield. It would be tough for me to leave a game as cool as Frontier in shabby condition, I would want to make it super nice.

Fwiw, I put 400 million hours into a calculator, and it's over 45,000 years. That sounds like quite a commitment.

#25558 3 months ago
Quoted from FatPanda:

I'd rather have a roached original pf than a hardtop. Glad there are plastics available as well. GL with getting it up and running. Ballys of this era aren't too bad. Header pins are like 99% of the problem
Frontier is a really fun and somewhat rare game. I had one a few years ago but couldn't keep it at the time for other games coming in. But now that my collection has settled a bit, I wouldn't mind adding one to the collection again.

I avoid hardtops at all costs.

I should load up a u-haul full of old EMs and head your way, I guess.
I've honestly considered that at times. If something is worth 30% more somewhere else.....seems like there'd be money to be made, even after shipping?
All of this reminds me of a VP that asked me to come to his place and put a value to an old "pinball machine". I discovered that it was actually a bingo machine and was sitting on the dirt floor of his barn. It was absolutely shot. He was under the impression it was worth some coin, and was a bit put off by my assessment of it being firewood. Eh.

Texas absolutely carries a premium on pin prices. There are tons of collectors down here with disposable incomes. The cost of living here is low comparative to most places, so many spend the extra money on their "toys."

Thanks Bluespin...unfortunately, I was busy with other things for most of the day, so I didn't see this until now.
Bargains do still pop up from time to time!
