My previous home the game room and work area for my machine's was in the basement as well. I also had a buddy that helped me move the pins in and out, but in the long run we got tired of moving the 350lb machines, also are age lol. So I did research and bought an electric stair climber. The brand name I liked is an Escalera. They are expensive if bought new, but found a used one on Craigslist for $500.00. Costed me $80.00 to ship it, but was a back saver and has more than paid for itself. Might be an option for you if you continue to buy and sell machines as you will get tired of moving machines out of the basement.

That was a great deal for one! I'd definitely like to get one someday, especially if I'll be moving machines by myself.

I bought this one and the stair runners were inadequate, I would not use it on my hardwood stairs for fear of damage.
Might have worked fine on carpet steps. ??

I bought mine from Home Depot and I’ve had zero issues.

Might be best. Isn’t apparently looking to sell Super Straight, maybe it is salvageable. Sent pics of the Bow and Arrow and Sheriff. Love me Atlantis, but the Sheriff is really shot, major water damage, missing topside everything basically. Looks like these were left in the rain or close to it.. too bad.

Quoted from tbaum:

Hey all - I know the current machine I'm buying isn't a project, but I lurk on this thread a lot, and figure given the number of machines you pick up, you would have some good knowledge on this subject.
I'm aking the plunge and buying my next pinball machine (Iron Maiden). I need to pick it up and transport it myself. Also need to move one of my other machines to the basement - an old EM that I need to do work on (Lady Luck), but will probably leave there to play one fixed.
Given that I need to move machines in and out of the house and down about 6 stairs what the best hand truck/dolly to buy? I would say that I will pick up another one or two in the next year and they will go in the basement. I see myself occasionally trading one as I feel the need to refresh the lineup - and or pick up new projects from this thread.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Quoted from ss-pinball:

There was a discussion about how to skin this cat a few days ago...some guys take off the head and do that separately, then take out the playfield and glass and then do the cabinet by itself. Might be easier to handle that way by yourself on a cheaper appliance dolly.
Of course the easy answer is to buy a large, walk out ranch so that you can easily move your pins on a hydraulic pin cart and not monkey around with steps.

Iron Maiden is a Spike pin. It is easy to remove the back box on Spike pins. Only a 2 or 3 cables need unplugged. The pivot brackets can be unscrewed from the back box by removing 4 bolts. And there are 4 bolts on the back of the back box that help attach the back box to the cabinet. When you drop the pivot brackets, place some cardboard between the brackets and the cabinet to protect the cabinet.

EDIT: While removing the back box can be done by one person, a helper would be nice to have around.

Yeah, they're a local NE. Pa. arcade vendor, don't really deal in pins either.

Bell Ringer is the coaster one. Was tempted to make an offer on the one at York last year, but it's tough to justify the space it takes up.

I’ve got a complete bell ringer playfield. And most the hardware, just need a mini pin cabinet!

Yeah, I gotta steal some garage space one of these days. If I put one more machine in that room I start to get into the "I gotta move machines to remove the glass" situation.

If the mpu is working this is a great deal. It’s really hard to find working game plan or great lakes aftermarket mpus.

I have another transporting pin question, since I'm guessing the people on here move pins more than most
I'm picking up an Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast (Pro) on the weekend and there's a chance of light rain. I need to get the machine about 30 feet from the person's house to my van. Should I bring one of those plastic covers for mattresses or anything to cover the machine? Any other suggestions?

#17698 3 years ago

I think the answer to your question is dependent on how you answer this question: What would you do if you were moving a fine piece of furniture?

Quoted from Billc479:

I figured plastic was the way to go (in addition to the normal foam between the head and plastic wrap), but just wanted to know if anyone had a best practice - like a particular type of cover/wrap had worked really well for you in the past.

Buy a roll of shrink film at Home Depot, Lowe’s, Harbor Freight, etc. Shrink the game before taking it outside.
