Me: it looks like it has a playfield overlay. You can buy a stencil kit from pinball pimp. I don’t see pictures of the playfield harness and all of the playfield parts. They may be included but aren’t shown. It’s missing two boards one of which is the mpu

Second hand info, but a few folks in the Carolina Facebook group have had issues with this seller. A couple claimed they made a deal for a lot of games which were not all there when they went to pick up. He does list an awful lot of stuff, so could be a mistake.

Honestly, if this were closer I would go buy the whole lot. Not sure why, but I would.

Didn't even have to click the link to know who you were talking about. I tried to deal with him once. He couldn't tell me what games he had for sale and keep insisting I drive all the way to TN to look through all his games and make a deal in person. Like I was going to drive to TN to check if there might be a game I wanted to purchase. Later he told me the game was sold.... I still to this day have no idea what game he was talking about.

Quoted from woody76:

I grabbed these both for $3100 with buyer premium. I had tax cert so did not have to pay taxes. A touch more than I wanted to pay, but I love projects. After talking to the guy I am not worried about the so called water issue. They got a little wet, but there is no cabinet swelling or anything. He also said whirlwind is flipping, so that one should be easy. If I can get a decent dollar for hurricane I will have a whirlwind for $1500.

well the whirlwind and hurricane delivered to my office the day after my house got blown away by a tornado. I did not have time to look at them until today and they are gorgeous. The whirlwind cabinet looks like it just came out of the box. Not a single mark or scratch anywhere. The hurricane looks great also, but has one tiny nick on the head. I took a gamble and it paid off I guess.

Wow... Very sorry to hear about your house being blown away! Is everyone okay?
I was going to comment on the irony of getting "Hurricane" and "Whirlwind" and being hit by a tornado. Be careful about getting a "Cyclone" or "Twister", and definitely think twice about anything like "Black Hole"!
Seriously though, I hope everyone is doing okay. I've seen the house across the street from me totally destroyed by a tornado, and understand the devastation...

Everyone was unharmed or I doubt I would be posting about pinball. It was nice today to get away and pick a game up and check those to out. I needed a break from insurance and stuff. Here is crazy part, I was working on shadow mod with a pinsider named twister while I was waiting on whirlwind to deliver and got nailed by a tornado. Unbelievable. You cant make this stuff up.

And by the way if you guys have never been in a tornado it is crazy scary. The noises we heard and the pounding and rumble was very intense. Thank God we have a basement.

Had one come super close in VT a long time ago. By far the scariest moments of my life. Only house damage was a door slammed shut and tore thru the frame.

Anyway, glad you're making the best of things. Did the pins in your house survive ok?

Machine needs some repairs to return to functional use and a replacement lock. Great addition to any man cave or she shed.
Currently the flipper solenoids are not working and the scores aren't displaying. Last summer a repairman stated that the machine needed $350-400 in repair work to restore all function and the cylinder key needs replacement

my gameroom was in the finished basement, so they did survive. Had a couple inches of water in the floor so will have to buy new leg levelers and maybe legs but that is least of my worries.

Hoping to get in on this one

#15976 4 years ago

I was interested in this pin if I could get the price down. I looked at the pictures closely and I noticed that the insert decals are pointing in all different directions. They’re all supposed to be in a normal read left to right direction. It’s possible that the inserts are loose and the seller just popped them back in any way they fit.

#15977 4 years ago
Quoted from bluespin:

inserts are loose

Extremely common on this game. At least from the handful that I've worked on, all had almost 100% loose inserts.

I had to reglue nearly all of the inserts in my Ship Ahoy. It's probably pretty common in this era. Nothing to worry about really.

As others have said, very common just for 1976 Gottlieb games. Royal Flush/Card Whiz, Bucaneer/Ship Ahoy Sure Shot/Bank Shot Etc. I have done most all these titles and have always reglued every single insert..

I won’t tell the seller this information if I try to buy it and negotiate a better price because of the inserts. I’m assuming that the seller doesn’t follow this forum. Lol
