Looks like it to me. No obvious wear, and the shooter lane is in great shape.

The pin that is also referred to as El Boro. Only one write up on it and it is not singing praises

Quoted from cottonm4:

I think it’s possibly the worst pin ever made.

Big Top, any of the Sears home model games, and even Street Fighter II are metric tonnes of fun compared to the paltry featherweight El Toro

Probably not. Ive got a Big Ben that was found in a ditch. I used to think Pioneer was the most boring pinball. I put BB in my classroom though and my students loved it. They had no experience with flashier games though

Quoted from shimoda:

If it was not for the young people getting suckered into buying the crap our market system produces, the economy would collapse.

The retailers used to love seeing me coming in the door. Now, I am older, wiser, and basically in the way

I disagree. Not saying it's the best pin ever but if you want to actually play the game instead of just bouncing the ball around, those two layers of rollover lanes will definitely hone your nudging skills. Some people just get confused on what to do on an EM if there are no drop targets...

I’ve played EMs without drop targets, Mars Trek is one that is absolutely phenomenal. It’s moreso the issue that aside from some nudging, the game is boring and has almost no objective. It’s the sort of game that has extremely low replay value.

I’m a fan of EMs, and I think if they’re set up right they are fast and fun with extreme punishment (no ball saves, no hand-holding) some games especially in the EM era had very little imagination. The scoring usually doesn’t even compensate for poor design! You can make a simple game, deeper with objectives and creative goals. Such as a game like #Rockmaker.
Some games feel like they were made just to be parts-bins!

#11914 5 years ago
Quoted from bluespin:

Tough question, both are snoozers IMO; I played El Toro at a traveling carnival tent the year it came out... after a while, even for a young kid, the only redeeming quality was working to get the ball back up the left entry gate to complete the letter sequence... bottom of the PF offered nothing to shoot for really... at least Big Ben has a few targets and logical things to target on the lower PF, and hey, a kick-out hole. I always thought Big Ben was made to get rid of parts left over from earlier games, since the lack of features and downright boring play rivaled most of Chi Coin offerings at the time.

I do have a sweet spot for Big Ben though... bought my dad a super sweet example that we set up in his ‘FloridaRoom’ addition to his country home in SW Virginia in the early 90s... despite only being played a handful of times a year, it only needed servicing twice, both times to change out bands, clean the PF’ and once to reglue an insert... no mechanical issues whatsoever!

I will admit - I really, really like Big Ben.

Why? It's simple - yet horribly unforgiving. Remove those added outlane posts, and then try to get a high score. FFS it's impossible.

Month/Year: May 1982
Production: 10,600
Cost: $600
Location: Fallston, MD
Seller: Justin Ruppert
Contact/Link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/ArcadePinball/?fref=nf

OP: For sale is a semi-working mr&mrs Pacman Pinball. All the boards are clean and working with no battery damage. Game boots up, but that’s as far as I’ve gotten with it. I figure it’s worth that much in boards/parts alone easily.

The bad:
Lockdown bar is stuck, both glasses are rough, playfield has previous touch up.

The good:
All boards are clean and intact, the game boots, the plastics all look unbroken.

This would be a good restore machine, or if your scratch building a Bally of this area, you’d have most parts you need for a build.

Motivated seller, someone come and get this outta my basement.

Production: 12,950
Cost: $475
Location: Burlington, WI
Pinsider: @captainneo

OP: I have a nice complete Sinbad project. MPU board looks very good, no acid damage. Repinned the main connector between the driver board and the MPU. Backglass is really nice. Cabinet is good. Playfield is dirty but not worn badly. Will clean up well. needs new rubbers and bulbs in places. Won't boot. Swapped with a known working MPU board and did the same thing, so the MPU is not the problem. Stopped working on it because I bought another one.

Cost: $3000

OP: In need of full shop job / repair / diagnosing. It does not play as-is. The score reset relays were stuck trying to reset when it was turned on but now it won’t turn on. No idea, and don’t feel like trying to diagnose it. Pictures show it ON but be advised that it doesn’t light up now.

Missing playfield glass but shouldn’t cost terribly much to replace.

Again this is a PROJECT, but it has a ton of potential! Sadly I’ve got a lot of projects at this point and this one isn’t quite making the cut.

Maybe I am just searching wrong, but looks like these were pulled from the auction already?

So, Keith Holbrook has been elevated to first name only status. He is good. And his wait times keep getting longer. But I had not thought of prospect that he would achieve the status that we could say, "Keith restored my play field." and everybody would "know" who Keith is.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Can you imagine stopping at a car lot because your dream car just showed up on the front line, only to have the sales rep tell you this "fine automobile is not for sale. It is just a teaser. The one we are really selling is that beat up POS over in the back corner".

I think that is called bait-and-switch.

I see a flipperless machine and two pins in the first picture. I didn't bother looking for a list of items for sale because I post leads, I don't do leg work for people. If you're interested in either or both of them you can try calling/emailing the seller

I will give them a call and see what's up. Thanks for all the work you put into this thread.

Manufacturer: Bally
Game/Type: Mata Hari / SS
Month/Year: September 1977
Production: 16,260
Cost: $1,000
Location: Nashville, TN
Seller: Ethan Opelt
Link/Contact: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/2034742663491608/

OP: Bally Mata Hari project for sale/trade. Playfield is nicer than most I’ve seen but one big wear spot on playfield you can see in photos. Previous owner put Mylar over it.

I’m not positive what is wrong with it. Sometimes it boots and sometimes it doesn’t. I played a few games on it. Displays all work (when the game works).

Backglass looks excellent. Original manual and schematics are included.

Asking $1,000 or may consider trades with $ on my end. Easy pickup in Nashville area.

#11935 5 years ago
Quoted from bluespin:

For example the three highest priced classic Ballys (78-84) were selling for $800-1,000 3-4 years ago (Fathom, Eight Ball Deluxe and Centaur). Now these same pins sell for Fathom $5,500, EBD $2,500 and Centaur $4,000. What these long time hobbyists don't tell you is that they have seller's remorse. They bought a Centaur project for $400-500, spent $100 on parts and sold it for $1,000 four years ago. If they had kept it they could sell it today for $4,000, with several interested buyers.

I agree with your overall observation with one exception. Fathom had eclipsed the $7K price point in 2013, six years ago. Nice ones were consistently fetching about $5K and the prime examples were selling for slightly north of $7K.

I remember that spike because I traded my Fathom that year for a valuation in that $7K range.

Decent condition Fathoms (and Centaurs to a lesser extent) have commanded enhanced price points for six to nine years, excluding outlier sales data. The price escalated geometrically on Fathom in 2013 and has stabilized in that general $5K+ range ever since.

This must’ve been a regional thing. I knew the location four fathoms in 2015. All in the same place all in various conditions. Two were working and two were projects. The working machines were priced around 2000 to 2500 and the projects were more in the $1000 range. I remember passing on all of them thinking that was pretty steep.

Don't know about Fathom's, but Centaur's have been in the 3K+ range for a long time. I've never seen a $400 or $500 Centaur in 19 years of collecting.

OP: Williams Swinger EM. I shopped this out and since then has gotten little play. Recently sold it, was working, new owner had it for about a week and the ball advance unit stopped working. This is not my game, I want nothing more to do with it. Solid shape. Clean PF, great BG. I can get photos for anyone interested, there may be some above. The $5K to $7K range for Fathom sales in 2013 reflects games in collector quality to high end restoration condition.

Functional and nonfunctional projects, especially those with substantial cosmetic issues, were selling in the $1K to $2,500 range. I agree with that valuation relative to 2015.

These were the average sales prices in the USA, not particular to any region and excluding the outlier sales.

That makes more sense. I could see that for collector quality back then for sure. It seems like anymore a blown out fathom is way over 2500. I’m not in the market for those games or anything. Just making causal observations.

I thought that coffee tables were an abomination (except OXO coffee tables of course ). Someone topped that horrible trend...Now someone is converting pinball machines to overhead lights for a pool table! We're supposed to be weening people off pool tables in this hobby, and this scmuck is trying to enhance someone's pool table experience!

i have a stripped down Hot Hand play field. I’d like to sell it. It is real nice condition. Right it is leaning against the wall. But it could make a nice chandelier. But I’d rather sell it to anybody who would be interested.
