I'm not an EE, so perhaps I'm not seeing some downside. But, AFAIK, ghosting occurs when there is enough residual voltage on a lamp matrix line to activate the LED. It is stopped in non ghosting LEDs by having a resistor built into the lamp. So, here's the possibly silly question: why would it not be easier, and cheaper, to build a connector board that runs every line through a resistor at the controller? So, every column and/or row would have a resistor.
