I just picked up a Bally Lost World in a project state. For a number of years I have been thinking of trying a retheme project based on retro comic SciFi art of the fictional movie and game board of Zathura.

As I was thinking about what I want to end up with when I work on this machine, it almost makes more sense to go with a retheme with the state of this game. One of the best parts, the famous backglass art, is totally shot. The playfield is not too bad but the inserts are slightly cupped, and at minimum needs touched up. Cabinet needs work. So what do I want to end up with, a fully or partially restored Lost World, or a unique retheme. All will cost time & money.

The game already has primitive space-like sounds anyways. I have a lot of work to do, and a lot of thinking and planning to do as well. Some pictures of the style of art I am interested in replicating follow.

That would be awesome! You should go for it!

I like the idea, especially of the retro SciFi art. Try doing some basic play-field mock-ups in photoshop, or equivalent program, to see if it will come together like you think it will. I'm currently toying around with a retheme idea as well and the original play-field layout and placement of the inserts can really effect the placement of the new art work.
