Wow! Just went to my first "Last Wednesday" event at Ground Kontrol here in Portland, Oregon (www.groundkontrol.com). This is a classic arcade with 20 pins and 80+ classic arcade games. On the Third Thursday and Last Wednesday of each month they have a free play event with a $5 cover. Played for over three hours! Along with my faves (afm taf cv ij), I got to play ToM (awesome), fh, totan, sm, ss, dm, ts, potc, tspp, msf, dw and others. Great night - make sure to stop by if you're ever in town, and I won't tell your wife that you planed your trip around these two days!

Sounds like a blast. Do you know if any of those pins belong to Jeri Ellsworth? You mentioning the TOTAN makes me wonder. She taunted me with the fact that she has one she won't sell when I saw her at MGC. Plus, she said she has around 50 machines on route in the Portland area. Kinda wish I lived there. Pins in the wild are few and far between around here.

I could be wrong, but I think the guys who own GK own and service all of the games themselves.

Yeah, I suppose so. Portland's a pretty big place after all. Plenty of pins to go around!

Ah yes, the simple splendor that is our very own retro arcade, Ground Kontrol. Free play nights are cool, but they are definitely no secret, so I usually avoid weekends and freeplay nights as a rule. There is so much pinball in this town, you can afford to be choosy. And GK now has a full time pin tech on staff so those games are clean and functioning. Check out the portlandpinballmap.com for more great places to play in Portland. I think there is almost 500 machines on location here last time I checked.

Portland is without a doubt the best pinball city in the world. I'm definitely jealous! We have a fantastic retro arcade here in Chicago called the Galloping Ghost Arcade. Unfortunately, they don't have any pins:

That arcade looks pretty cool gweem! But without pins how much time can you really be expected to spend there? Anytime you're on the West Coast, hit me up and I can steer you to some great pinball. I am jealous of your Tommy, there is only one in town and it has been off everytime I tried to play one. And then I went to PHOF and they didn't have a Tommy on display. And then I went to NW pinball and Gameroom show, and they didn't have one. It's kinda my grail machine right now. Have to play one!!! And soon!

I live 4 blocks away from Ground Control. Best place to play hands down.. The owners the help everyone is super rad. Mark one of the techs is a wizard and helps me out a grip with all my machines.

I find the experience at Ground Kontrol is miserable. The music is so loud that you can't hear a thing on the game and the machines are just ok maintenance wise.

Any Portlanders that want to play in my game room for free just send me a PM

Had a good time there...and close to Mary's, which is always nice.

Thumbs up for the killer pin parties and pretty open guest lists but ground kontrol kickass. nothing like killing a roll of quarters there with some drinks and games before going out.

I would rather go to Marks anytime. Great guy and fantastic collection. Mark will also give you some super advice on many things related to pinball. That being said, Portland does have some great places to play pinball. There is also a new spot (forgot the name) in Oregon City that just opened. Did someone mention Mary's.....icky! There is a new gentleman's club downtown that has much more talent and you won't be afraid to touch the glasses.

Yea but I can stroll into mark's at 12am just after I got out of magic garden.... I am looking forward to checking out his collection. I always have my doors open to free play on first Thursday at my gallery. 625 nw Everett 110.
