Thinking of adding another cartoon based theme to be alongside my TSPP. I have a chance to get a Popeye or R&B and was wondering which of the two would be more reliable/easier to repair/maintain? I think it would be R&B? Also Popeye parts are more difficult to come by? Perhaps I already answered my own question!

Edit: Poll added!

I actually really like Popeye. Has a ton of depth and is pretty funny. R&B isn't bad, I owned one for a while, but I'd go with Popeye for sure.

Ive played both, have a Rocky & Bullwinkle.. its great.. Id vote R&B

My vote Popeye
Maybe add a poll

I like both but give Popeye the edge. It has a little bit more depth.

R&B

Popeye. RnB is good to look at and nostalgic BUT...Wrong hat, wrong hat, wrong hat. Need i say more?

And now here's something you'll really like.......Family Guy

I don’t own either, but played both. Always felt Popeye was cluttered at the top and never could really see below the boat very well. The animated backglass on R&B should get bonus points.

Popeye! It's so much better. There's a lot more to do on it.

I got popeye a couple months ago and I really like it.

Rocky & Bullwinkle with a color DMD for the win.
If you going for a cartoon theme, then color DMD is a must with this pin.
Really makes the animation look like you're watching cartoons.

Thanks for the comments on your favorites folks! 50/50 on the poll. Any comments on comparing maintenance of these games?

they are both rock solid games. with the nod of toughness to W/B. DE has plastic popbumper bodies and other things that make it feel clunky and power supply needs to be rebuilt if it has not already and fuse clips are the enemy of that and all data east games.

Whereas WB games have the best mechs and flippers in the biz. But some games like popeye leave people with a bad taste sometimes. Not all games are TAF,AFM or MM. lol

I like popeye and give the nod to it for your choice by quite a margin. RnB is fun but gets old relatively quick. If you like TSPP my real recommendation is family guy or shrek.
Family guy being the better game by far! I have both fgy and tspp , neither are leaving. Had RnB and sold it still looking for a popeye to complete my superpin collection.
Good luck and play both and buy what makes you feel happy and warm inside. Forget everyone else.

Played both. Bought Popeye. Family favorite.

Thanks for the great insights and opinions. I have limited space and funds (unless I raid my 401k!), so I can only have one 2$k pin. That means Family Guy and Shrek are out. Popeye seems to be more difficult to find while RnB seems more common. Prices on the west coast appear to be higher than anywhere else. Leaning more towards the RnB because of the art, happy light hearted theme, plus it’s a cartoon that I loved as a kid. Popeye is a unique super pin with a unique layout, especially the upper play field. Theme is ok for me.

I have played both. The RnB was shopped while the Popeye was not but it appeared to be in better condition than the RnB. The Popeye did have an issue of the vuk not getting the ball to the upper play field consistently. The RnB was actually more $ than the Popeye.

I’ll post here when I decide and get the pin, if anyone is interested.

I will admit that I did that twice now. Very likely to do it again if I don't have the cash on hand at the time. I'm a good 16 years away from retiring so that is not a big deal.

Popeye also looks great with a color dmd, and LEDs. Just got back from mgc and about to install the color dmd and the rest of the GI LEDs.

If you find a clean example, it looks really nice with the ship. I like the silly music. It's an oddball game. You should listen to the music for both.

Thanks for the before and after pics. What a difference!

Well I finally decided and bought the Popeye. The price was decent (better than the RnB) and the game looks to be in good, clean shape. Will be getting it next week! I'm now in the most hated, super pin club! I'll post pics when it arrives.

The hate it gets makes it endearing.
