So I found my FT pop bumper skirts are chipped and I got new caps and skirts to look like a bobber color. I got the top and metal part out but looks like the bulb socket has leads that are holding the body in?!! How in the heck do I get these out to replace the skirts?

There are 2 screws in there as well, those will need to come out. Once those are out, and the leads are clipped, just pull up! The build up of dirt, grime, wax, etc...may have a little bit of a grip to it, but it should come up.

Replace the skits, bodies, coil sleeve and spoon while you are in there.

Makes a big difference.

Do this. To completley rebuild a pop bumper is only a few bucks each. It's the labor that's annoying. Also, you might want to have some extra lamp sockets on hand.

And all I wanted to do was.............. hahah

Do you guys recommend the wire leads or the straight leads like oem?

OK Looking at new pop bumper full replacement. But I'll have to check sleeve size....

Get the original flat leads, the new ones with the insulation are crap. The staples are from an upholstery stapler. If there are local pinheads ask around and see if anyone has one. It makes the job so much easier.

Here is what I got, 5 of each, just in case :-p

Spring - pop bumper 10A-7 #10-7
Yoke fiber (A5493)(545-5609-00)(1A-5493) #01-5493
Yoke metal #A5492 1A-5492 #01-5492
Coil sleeve - 1-3/4" 545-5411-00 #03-7066
Pop bumper body Williams / Bally #03-7443-5
Pop bumper base 03-6009-A5 #C-115-1
Lamp socket pop-bumper straight-wire #24-8776

I already had new skirts and caps.

If you're not using LEDs I recommend picking up some 259 anti-vibration bulbs.

Make sure your rod and ring assembly is good and tight, not broken or loose and then buff and polish the heck out of them till that have a mirror shine. Makes the pop bumper action with a good spoon and the switch blades tuned in supper fast and sensitive. The insulated wire leads sometimes makes the lamp set up to high compared to the older metal strips.

I carefully lift only one end of the staple, replace socket with flat leads, then when assembling put the lifted staple back in the hole.

I did the same on my first but the gun really speeds up the process. Replacing pops takes nothing's with the correct tools.

I have a wood staple gun at work. Should be ok to redo the staples.

You can't get that stapler in there, you need an upholstery stapler with a long nose.
You can pry the staples up a little and slide the leads out or cut them and solder the new ones to the old leads.
I slide the new leads under them and push the staples back down.

Order Gott. yokes, they are stamped steel with a bend to reinforce them instead of pot metal like the WMS yokes.
You have to grind or file about 3/32 off the top of the bend so they don't bottom out but they will not break like the pot metal ones.

Dang I already ordered everything. Well at least it is oem spec.

Ok I'll just pry the staples up. Its a hand stapler so ya not a long nose. shoot. Then I'll just solder the new legs on.

Sorry!

I did all the repairs. Wasn't too bad when you just get it done. But yeah, seems scary if you haven't done it.

#22 10 years ago

Vid, I totally read and used that!

#23 10 years ago

Not a bad job, just scary if you never did one before. Oh, and,,,

Oh and whats the spoon?
