Pop bumper re-build question

I'm attempting my first pop bumper re-build on a Gottlieb Totem. On the solenoid plunger, is there supposed to be a "shoulder" on the smaller diameter portion of the plunger, just below the "cap"? I've tried to show in the photos below what I mean. Thanks.

It could be some specialty thing, but I've never seen one like that on other Gottliebs of that era. Maybe it just got worn by the metal plate? If you can slide the replacement plate side to side on it I'd say there's a problem and replace it.
