I have on loose nail on a space shuttle pop bumper. The other two nails holding the pop bumper assembly are secure. Two questions. First, am I okay with having the assembly secured only by two nails? Second, if not what is the best way to secure the loose nail. The hole is basically routed out on the top of the playfield so the nail will not bite.

Thanks,

Robert

so you countersunk the hole too deep and now you cant do the nut up because the nail turns? is that it?

try this.. put the nail in, put the proper nut on loosely .. then put *two* more skinny ones on ( normal metal not nylock)... lock the last two together and use then them stop the nail spinning while you tighten the third ( proper) one with a spanner. then use two spanners to unlock the other two again and take them off.

how well it will work depends how good you are spinning spanners.. have a try.

be aware the next guy who has to work on it will wish death on you.

or .. fix it properly . will the hole with bamboo skewer splinters and wood glue or putty or whatever else you prefer then when its dry start again

I pulled the nail and one of the fins on the nail is broken. I have looked but cannot find them online. Is there an alternative fix? Since I have two nails secure would a bolt and nut worK? It is in the backside of the bumper underneath the plastics so it is not exposed and there will be no ball contact.

Epoxy, drill, and new nail did the trick. The game is restored and plays great. Next is to pain the cabinet and I would like to find a playfield restoration option if folks have any suggestions. The playfield is worn in places but not totally shot.

Thank you for the link to the guide. I think playfield respiration is beyond my skill set. I am pretty handy with pcb boards, electronics, electrical and the mechanics of the game, but after reading your guide I am not sure I am up for a playfield restoration. I just bought a replacement playfield for my firepower - guy had an original fully populated in really good shape for $150. Mine is extremely worn to the wood in a lot of places. Maybe I will tinker with the old playfield after I do the swap.

I did contact CaptianNeo and he is interested in working on my space shuttle. I am sending him pictures.

Thanks
