Barry Oursler designed more machines I like than anyone else.
I like both Steve and Pat designs. Hiever, Steve has sold more games, but Pat has made more off the wall designs.
Lawlor on top. Both men have had long careers and brought innovation to their games. Lawlor’s designs are more theme integrated and his layouts are more cerebral, making him my fave designer. Sorry Steve, but be a better Pat Lawlor of course I am kidding and am glad Steve has contributed in so many ways and in his own style.
If you took everyone involved in pinball over the past century and turned them into a globe shaped sculpture, it would be heavy. To keep such a large project in place, you first need to form a base selecting the most impactful of these people. The base will support pinball while bearing the load. Being invited to join the base is an honor. The privilege cannot be bought and it must be earned. Pat’s arm and Steve’s leg can clearly be seen in the twisted snarl of people composing the base.
I like both.
I wish Steve worked for a company that would allow him to make full featured games so we could really see what he is capable of.
I will say that I don’t find lawlor games to be stop and go. If anything they tend to have way more flow than Steve games. Steve has more speed but I don’t call that flow. Lawlor games have built in rest stops
