Stern quality, now that is an amusing oxymoron. I have seen many issues that on recent Sterns, Avengers, Acdc, Xmen and so on that should have been resolved in the factory before release. On various Avengers machines in the area the ball getting stuck under Hulk's arms is quite common. At the recent launch party the operator even removed the right arm so as to avoid it getting stuck, which in multiball doesn't release through ball search, so one can have a lengthy one-ball-multiball. The ramp lifting up is not a very good gimmick either because the ball rejecting from the Black Widow shot is not uncommon, this is due to the ramp not resetting into the correct position, again witnessed on more than one machine. Also when a extra ball or Hulk multi are lit at the saucer the ball quite often doesn't sit in the saucer when shooting the Black Widow ramp. This can be very frustrating, especially while playing in a tournament. Other machines, Acdc for example I remember right when it first came out drop target problems were common on the LE/premium versions. Xmen had an issue where the ball when shot into Magneto for lock would mess up due to a diverter issue. Transformers commonly has trough issues for the Megatron lock, not kicking the ball out or kicking more then one ball when not in multiball. Anyhow the point being that for a new product these things should not happen, or at least not be so common. What other product or item do people buy where when new, out of the box things are already happening that aren't supposed to happen? In my opinion, regardless of price, when a purchasing a new product it should work as it is supposed to without issues at least until it has been used a fair amount. Among local pinball circles when something go wrong on a newer Stern the response is usually, "Oh, Stern quality."
