The next day when they announced that they were making a standard edition, I realized that the game would always be available, and there was no need to pre-order.
It was evident that I could wait two years, and if the game was great, I'd still be able to get it at the same cost, or below. (In the worst case, slightly above...but I wouldn't have to tie up my money for a year or more).
Announcing the Standard removed the necessity to get in early.
