You obviously haven't been to a west coast show lately. Besides attending and participating at shows in big numbers, the women here are also joining leagues and playing in tournaments. The last two tournaments I competed in were about 25% women each. See for yourself...

Note the top 10 finishes. One woman tied for second place (tie-breaker put her in third). Both of the tournament organizers were women too. Leagues and shows regularly get a much higher percentage of participating women. Echa and the league she started (Belle's and Chimes) deserve some of the credit, but I also give all the other ladies credit for understanding that it really can be a fun hobby. Very few babysitting wives or girlfiends out here. And it's not just the bay area. League and tournament results up and down the coast are showing this.

Wow. If you really think prices are still rising, I'd suggest you stop by Boston pinball and look at the graphs at the top of the page. Used pin prices have been dropping for over a year now and and don't show any signs of going up. Suggesting keeping women out of the hobby to keep prices from going up is ridiculous.
