Just picked up this Fish Tales. Poor machine was rarely.if ever waxed. Rubbers where chalk.
The pic is after one application of novus 2. I am considering three options.
1. Keep polishing and get it the best I can (might use polishing ball)
2. Fix minor insert wear and mylar the whole area
3. Fix minor insert wear and clear.coat the whole thing

you can always fix the inserts and whatever else that needs paind and put that playfield protector from germany:

looks like an option for the pf to last a lifetime

Interesting option. Has anyone tried this?

That seems like a nice option, never seen those before... Personally though, I would have concerns about dust and dirt getting trapped in between and grinding into the playfield. It seems like it just lays over top. Perhaps that wouldn't be an issue if you keep everything clean, which you probably would if you invested in something like this.

that playfield is one of the best FT's i've seen. You should restore it and clear it before it turns to shit like they all do. That one has minimal damage so far. FT playfields do not hold up well and doesn't take long before those fish and lures are half gone.

Yep, Neo is right.

Reseat & glue down those inserts before they get all chipped up, touch up and clear.

FT can get killed in only a few months - don't ask me how I know this.

That FT playfield looks about perfect considering the normal wear these have!

At a minimum I would strip the topside and use multi step polishes with a wheel/buffer. This one would turn out incredibly nice. Novus is great but you'll get much better results (in WAY less time) using treasure cove or equivalent auto polishes. I'd probably just go wax after that. But clear would be the ultimate if cost isn't an issue.

I guess it just matters how much work you want to do.

I sold my first FT and this ones a keeper. I am going to put it in my arcade because I like to share but I want it to last. I think I am.going to clear it! Just need to replace the insert decals first

I own a FT will some normal wear (worse than yours) and would love to see you document and post pics as you do it..would consider doing it to mine but to afraid due to my lack of knowledge so...please post if you can. Cheers

Watching for replies...I would like to know as well Never seen or heard of anything like this. I need to see what other machines they may offer the same product for...going back to look.

If you really like it and want it to last a LONG time then touch up and autoclear is hard to beat.
You can of course buff or wax the hell out of it and it will look better and play just fine. Regardless of which route you choose fix any loose inserts before they get damaged.

we are making a full restore of a T2 and we ordered one of these to try it out.
will post results pics and videos soon

Clear it, no brainer. I can come clear it for you

#15 10 years ago

Yea, some of those inserts look raised, what Vid said. Secure/reset those and auto clear on modern games like this!

#16 10 years ago

what neo and vid said. It is a nice pf, and a game that is awesome when restored properly. good luck. ron

#17 10 years ago

My pf is almost as nice as yours.I might make the leap to pf protector.my cab decals are def the worst part of my game

#18 10 years ago

My wear is about the same if not even a little less... No funds or time to strip and send out, but wondering if putting some clear touch-up over the areas of wear for now would cause a major issue in the future, just want to protect what is there for now and perhaps in a year or so send it out. Thoughts?
