Quoted from Blackbeard:

Sure you don’t need to just muscle it out (assuming it truly isn’t bolted from underneath)?
I’ve used a mallet to pop these out from underneath once or twice. They get really stuck.

I'll check again tonight, but it didn't want to budge before.

Send me a message if you need a right ramp. I have an extra, not perfect but will do.

Quoted from SilverUnicorn:

Question regarding cabinet art.
Did they make different versions?

What I was told when I bought mine was that they initially released it with the cabinet art that has guns on the front and backbox sides but early in production decided that wasn't the best look for a game that would probably get played by a lot of kids, so they just dropped those for the rest of the run.

I have no idea of the veracity of that story but I know you can get the original art on decals if you decide to freshen up your cabinet.

Been working on a Police Force for my father in law. Have made good progress. Here’s some before and after photos so far (clearly out of order)….. still w ways to go. I’m no HEP but it’ll be a nice player once it’s done.

This game was so full of hacks.

This one made me chuckle. I was having issues with the car going up and down. The rod was all gummed up and it was clear the belt wasn’t original. Well I replaced it and cleaned the metal rod and it’s great now. But this was the old “belt” .

I guess it got the job done

Looking MUCH better. Nice work. She was dirty. Looks like my EATPM when i got it years ago. But she turned out well when I was done. Probably gonna do a similar topside teardown on my PF. Mine is nowhere near as bad is yours, just needs a little clean up, rubbers and some new posts and ? I've tore down 4 system 11 games over the years, just curious how easy or tough this one was for you?

Thanks. I personally think this one is pretty easy to do. If yours is like mine, ALL the posts will be locktite-d into the T-Nuts and will likely break. I was prepared for this as most of my System 11 machines were like this. The posts are expensive at $5 a piece so just beware.

Of the system 11's I've done, I find this the easiest. Diner was a giant pain in the rear end in my opinion. Had I not needed parts I probably could have gotten this done in probably 2 or 3 days if it were all I worked on. Police Force was definitely easier than Earthshaker, Diner, and Bride of Pinbot (I know, not a System 11 but I still count it, LOL).

Yeah, this teardown doesn't look too bad. I bought it last fall and it had new ramps, but it's a bit dirty everywhere else. Playable, but. I've done a TAXI, EATPM, Cyclone and a Rollergames. This one looks to be about the easiest. Post some pics when you have yours done

If you did those others I don't think you'll have any issues at all with Police Force. Working through some electronic issues (switch matrix) on mine then I'll take final pics.

God I hated shopping system 11s w locktite.

The old solder iron trick saved a ton of stress w breaking posts.

Hi all,

Sorry to resurrect an old thread here, but I'm hoping there's a (longshot) chance that another Pinside Police Force owner here can maybe help me out.

I know my chances are about as slim as finding life on Mars, but I'm hoping there's someone out there with a spare Police Force MPU that they're willing to part with and sell. I bought my Police Force about 2 years ago with little knowledge about pinball machines (I know, this is my fault 100%) and I've only ever owned 2 machines (an EM and this one). Well, it has never worked properly right from the moment that I brought it home. I've had numerous techs come out and tinker with the machine. I was told it had minor acid damage by previous techs, but the latest tech appears more knowledgeable and now I'm told it has major acid damage. Anyway, it's sort of frustrating owning a giant paper weight and it has probably tainted my view of second-hand sales of pinball machines...but I digress. Anyway, I'm hoping to buy a new Stern one day without any of these issues, but in the interim it would be lovely if I could just actually have a working machine lol.

If anyone has a working Williams Police Force MPU (with no acid damage) that they're willing to sell or knows of someone selling one, I'd love to purchase it. Or, alternately, if someone has a working Rottendog MPU (that's already flashed with Police Force coding -- I think that's what you call it) that could work too.

Thanks again for reading,

Matt

Let’s see a picture of the board

Well anyways,
I’ve been playing Police Force for the last few days and have been enjoying it. It does remind me of Diner and Taxi, just a weirder layout, and while I’m overall fine with the rules, it’s a shame that there is no specific jackpot for multiball. In other words, multiball is not really all that necessary.

If someone updated the code to this game like some of those data east games, this thing could really shine.
One of the things I would add is it keeps track of criminals caught, and maybe tie that to the handcuff bonus scoop and or part of your balls end bonus.
In multiball, make hitting croc alone, (instead of all four criminals) light the jackpot.

#616 1 year ago

You need multiball to advance the letters to POLICE on the ramp which then lites the TOP COP BONUS for 3M. That's essentially your MB goal.

My biggest complaint is the value of bonus doesn't seem inline with the rest of the scoring

I also thought the same. Like taxi, the characters could’ve been implemented much better. A revamped code would be killer here.

If you don’t have criminals locked, it doesn’t light the ramp for lock, so you can get the letters that way too as it’s lit for letters instead

Are you sure? Maybe there is a setting to make it more challenging but on mine green lock 1 at the ramp is lit as soon as the ball passes the skill shot.

Catching the criminals lights the jackpot at the ramp which scores the value on the smaller display if you beat the timer ( I have mine set to 15 seconds as I think that's the shortest possible)

That’s the way mine is set up, on very hard settings.

And my jackpot is set to like 5 seconds by default on very hard, but I should probably change it, it’s too short.

Sorry for late reply. Just got the board back. You can see the corrosion. Repair tech says that it's under the copper and will have reliability issues in the future. I'm wondering if I'm better off just buying a Rottendog MPU and buying the game ROMs? It seems like the audio issues ppl are experiencing with the Rottendog boards aren't really a problem with System 11's because the audio comes from a separate different board?

Maybe start a thread on rottendog boards and see if they're reliable for this pin.

I still would send detailed pics to clive at coin op cauldron. He's the best in the business. You'd wanna keep the original board if possible.

Finally got my father-in-law's machine done to the point where I am ok delivering it to him. Had to work to chase down a switch matrix issue butnow verything is working 100% and it looks pretty good. It's not perfect, but he isn't after perfect. Just a nice machine he can not be embarrassed to have in his basement. I think it came out great, but that's my opinion. LOL

Oh, and the switch matrix issue was some corroded pins in the connector on the MPU, which was from what we can surmise was battery leakage at some point.

Some "Before" pics are in my post here: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/police-force-club-we-enforce-the-law-of-the-jungle/page/13#post-7369471

Also, a huge thank you to DumbAss for the replacement interconnect board as the one we had was so hacked up.

Say, just did a 90% playfield teardown on my PF. Looks so much better by the way, but, my police car will not go back up and reset when the game starts. I noticed a broken wire near the motor. Guessing that's the problem, but not exactly sure where it's suppose to go. Help? Worked just fine since I got the pin

K, still not sure where this yellow wire goes. Now, not only does the police car not move, but I cannot even attempt to lock a ball, even though the lock ball is lit. Just can get P O L I C E letters when hitting the right ramp. Really confused. The car has worked perfectly since I got the game in Oct. One minor teardown and now this. All I disconnected was a couple of switches for the ramp and habitrail. Any help would be greatly appreciated. And can someone please post a pic of there PF underside of the area of my pic.

If the car doesn't work you can't lock balls as you have no way to release them. You have to have two wires on the resistor/motor for the car to work. I don't have a manual in front of me at present but I would assume it goes to the solder joint to the left of the wire in your pic.

On that board, not on the "battery" to the right? I rarely work on these, so just a tad unsure

It goes right here. Just opened mine up and looked to be sure.

Got it. Working fine now. Thanks..

Quoted from galaga50:

When the ball goes through the firing range spinner, is there meant to be any sounds? And like on Taxi, does the target amount change as the target spins?
I am trying to work out if my opto is broken or not.
Thanks

I too have non functioning range spinner. I replaced the opto with no change. Anyone have any ideas? Iwould replace the entire assembly, if I could find one. But I am afraid that may not work either. It gets expensive replacing parts that aren't broken.

Is everything else working? The spinner is in line with the ramp switches as well. When my spinner when out it was a board issue that I had to replace a transistor. Then it all worked.

Everything else that I can see is working. The transistor tested okay. And the connections have continuity. The spinner spins fine. The lights on the scoring part is working. But it doesn't register the spin and there is no gun fire while spinning. It worked a few days ago then the spinner got bent. I pulled it out to straighten it, and since then, not working.

My left flipper bat sticks every once in a while in a near horizontal position when the flipper button is pressed on my Police Force. Hitting the flipper button will return the bat to the correct position. Is there an area in particular I should look at? Thanks!

I'm now a member of this club. Recent acquisition, now sitting next to my bad cats.

The one I just got has guns all over it lol

Quoted from emkay:

What I was told when I bought mine was that they initially released it with the cabinet art that has guns on the front and backbox sides but early in production decided that wasn't the best look for a game that would probably get played by a lot of kids, so they just dropped those for the rest of the run.
I have no idea of the veracity of that story but I know you can get the original art on decals if you decide to freshen up your cabinet.

The unit I just picked up has the ramp loose from the play field it looks like it's pulled the screws through the metal on the flap I really was hoping to not spend the outrageous money for a new ramp set but the ramps are pretty yellow and probably need to go anyway so I guess this is just an excuse to do it

Most likely the plunger for that flipper has developed a little lip on the end from hitting the stop. Obviously you can rebuild the flipper but you can also just take the flipper assembly apart and file the burrs off the tip of the plunger and it will likely be good for another year or more.

New ramps on these old system 11s look awesome brand new though. Led gi shines thru the now clear ramps and lightens the pf nicely.

Does anyone have the specs/file/drawing for the spinner, this POS I bought yesterday is missing it and I'd happily exchange printing up a batch for free, for the file/specs/drawing.

Is there a source for a replacement police car? Mine looks bad. I listed the game for sale but in the meantime I'll keep on keeping on to get it refurbed.

Are you holding onto your Police Force? I read the backstory on how you acquired it and it's too bad there are a-holes in the community who are like this. I'm intrigued how this machine turns out if you decide to go ahead with the project.
