Thanks. I wonder if they changed it at some point.

It's pretty straight forward. Don't lose the tiny little nylon washers on each side if the ramp switch wireforms. Ask me how I know
LOL
Chris

Thanks for this sage advice. I'm a bit nervous for the ramp entry wire. Everything else seems easy. I think once I get the middle ramp out it should be easy to clean.

Quoted from sullivcd40:

I think I'm going to remove my center ramp to clean and wax my playfield. I've never done it before. Is there anything I can really screw up while doing this?

Take some pics so there's less guess work when reinstalling.

Mine looks like this too for the front panel art.

Hi, everyone. I'm looking for the top metal piece that holds the ramp entry contact wireform in place. With or without decal. For the Police-Force pinball machine (possibly the same part is also used for other pinball machines). A part number or a shop link would also help me. Thank you for sending me a direct message.

Ok, so…..this damn diverter!!!! The coil was crispy when I got the dame and the diverter was all gummed up. Replaced the coil and cleaned up the assembly.

Still nothing. Replace the TIP and associated prescriber and nothing. Thought I may have other board issues.

Installed a replacement System 11 board (new, from Dimbass). STILL nothing from the diverter.

Not sure where to go next. It does NOT fore in coil test. Wiring is secure as far as I can tell.

Any ideas?

Also. Does this plug look correct? This is from the relay near the diverter.

Start with the basics, check for voltage at the coil.

Hey gang. Just brought home a police force that was stored in a barn for 20 yrs!
I will definitely be going through here and be looking for lots of information.
No broken ramps and the drug rat is still intact haha

First off , does anyone have a spare display?? This one doesn’t have one at all but I do have the highscrore display.

Second , I got power and it lights up. It gives me 3 laser noises and a dong and then nothing. For some reason I have F-14 tomcat Roms on the sound board lol but without seeing what the display would say, I’m stuck as to what to do next

It lives! Got some advice to power cycle with the coin door open and then closed and it started up ! I have no flippers though. Fuses are good but the flippers just seem dead. Also the top bumper doesn’t do anything at all either

Ordered the wolffpac display kit so I’ll have that in a bit and I’ll be able to go through the test menu

Shorted q73 and got the pop bumper to fire so I know the coil works; will continue down the line to find the fault

Got the flippers working also

Hi Chris
My cab is the same as yours, I can’t remember for sure, but I think ours are the early cabs?
Also if you still need a pic of the connector let me know. I’ll be home Tomorrow and I can take a pic.

Does anyone have any mods for this game? I’m going to add some reflectors to beam light in darker areas

Not many mods that I know of, but I put some bright leds in the pops and it really lights up the top area well.

I am currently BEYOND frustrated with my Police Force

Some background - I got this as a working project. There were issues with the diverter. The coil was burnt up and the assembly was seized. I got that worked out but the diverter still did not work.

I determined that the transistor and pre driver for the Diverter coil were bad. Or so I thought. I replaced those components, but no change.

I bought a replacement CPU from Victor (Dumbass here on Pinside) - got everything hooked up and still nothing from the diverter. This led me to believe that it was not a MPU issue. But here's when the OTHER issue starts....

I bent a pin on the sound processor ship when transferring them over so the "new" board didnt have sound. I got a replacement and put it in the new board and I have sound again.....sort of. Music works but nothing in the sound test. I was missing the sounds and voices. I moved all the chips back to the original board and have the same issue. So I got replacement soiund ROMs (U22, U21, U4 and U19). Replaced those today but STILL only have music. No other sounds or speech.

I can live without the diverter for now as the game will still play, but no sounds is bothering me. Any ideas? I have poured over all the connections several times and do not see anything I have missed.

Cross posted in the System 11 thread as well.

Thanks!
Chris

Well, I think I found my diverter issue!

Picked my Police Force up a few months back for a steal of deal! It lived in a garage for close to 20 years and is for sure a project machine. Been slowly cleaning it up while I wait for new MPU from victor. Overall not in bad shape. Cabinet graphics and translite are faded, but that can all be spruced up in the future after I have machine up and running.

I am looking for a decent used inner ramp, as mine has seen better days.

Starship Fantasy here in Phoenix area has the original molds and you can buy new ramps. His name is Larry and he’s fantastic

#568 1 year ago

I second Starship Fantasy.

I've purchased numerous ramps from Larry. All great shape and shipping.

Get new ones! It's a killer game and will turn out nice with the clear new ramps.

My ramp looked like that when I got my Police Force and I just bought the Cliffy ramp protectors and never had a problem since. Obviously not a good solution if you are restoring a game but if you just want to play it and not see that broken ramp they should do the trick

#573 1 year ago

Ok so I have sounds and music missing at certain points. Where do I begin? I remember seeing something like if sounds play in test mode it means something ?
The first ball music also repeats after a couple of seconds over and over
I’ll make vid and post it

#574 1 year ago

Why would they make this stopper crooked? wouldn’t it have been better straight?

image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
#575 1 year ago

It was originally designed that way. My pf had a dimple for it to be straight. My guess is it would bounce back too fast and go past the kickout.

I actually ended up making own repair pieces that are very similar to the ramp protectors. Just some sheet metal and some careful fabrication. Will do for now, as it’s going to be an exclusive home use machine.

Nice job! That should work just fine, when I got my Police Force ramps were not even available and when they eventually got made the cost was 50% of what I bought the game for.

Can anyone confirm my Police Force diverter wiring is correct? Specifically for the coil.

Recently joined the club, and I must say this title is even more fun than I thought. Never played one before, but it always intrigued me because of how similar to TAXI it can be, and that is one my favorite System 11's ever. I'm looking for a translite, and can only find the Glass one through Marco. Almost $300. So that's a no. Anyone out there sell translites for this title? Mine is "ok" but would like a better looking one.

Welcome to the club! Although I like Taxi a bit more, PF is underrated and under appreciated on Pinside. When set up properly, it’s a tough game to put up big scores. Enjoying mine that I’ve had for about nine months.

#583 1 year ago

Best call outs around. DA JEWS ARE MINE!

Seriously though, PF could be way way better with a rules revision.

Thanks. I like TAXI more as well. But for basically 1/2 the price, I couldn't pass this up. Plus it has new ramps and is overall in pretty good condition

What have you done to make it tougher? I saw District 82 put massive post rubbers on the center ramp, they also set the take high score to like 8 shots or something impossible like that. My left flipper has a bit of ball hop coming off the frame so even 2 in a row is really tough.

I'm surprised there hasn't been a code revision for this game. Just a little balance in the scoring would make it way better.

The 7-degree playfield elevation or whatever was recommended in the manual seems to create a lot of ball drains. Maybe it's just the way the playfield is designed too. Changing the center ramp high score in the options in the menu bumps up the difficulty too. My best score is around 18 million. Tougher game then it looks. Or maybe I just suck at pinball.

Are you sure that the ribbon cable is on correctly?

Pretty sure. Reversed it several times and replaced it with a new one. Did that with all the cables, which looked pretty junky. I want to reiterate that it worked on one side of the room and when I moved it the display went blank.

Might want to triple check the ribbon cables. In your photo listed on your ad, the left ribbon cable(J4) has the red wire on the right side of the header. The red wire of the ribbon cable should be on the same side as pin 1 of the header. I believe the J4 ribbon handles the Jackpot display.

The ribbon cable at J3 is correct at the display connection but check the other end at the MPU. The MPU side will need to be the same way(red wire towards pin 1 side). If the MPU side is currently flipped, that can cause the garbled display.

Note, the ribbon cable can be reversed(red wire to opposite side of pin 1) but the other end will need to be plugged in the same way.

Also need the center speaker cover.

Polished up the lenses. They came out pretty well. But now I have another question. I’m trying to remove the pictured ball guide. The stud closest to the bottom of the photo is still attached but I can’t for the life of me find a corresponding but n the bottom of the playfield for it. Unless it’s underneath another mechanism. Anyone have a clue?

Sure you don’t need to just muscle it out (assuming it truly isn’t bolted from underneath)?

I’ve used a mallet to pop these out from underneath once or twice. They get really stuck.
