Where is the Police Force love? Time for a club! I am not an owner yet, but I consider myself a future owner as I will prolly take a crack at trying out all System 11 pins at some point. I have done a few test drives with this title and definitely like it but worry about it's longevity in my small collection.

Let have a safe and fun environment where we can discuss this classic and not have the snobs mock us!

#2 8 years ago

It has its ups and it has its downs. Personally I would have kept it longer if my wife was a fan. It took the place of HSII in the lineup and she was a little let down. The call outs are some of my favorites. "Oh no! Its the cops man!"

#3 8 years ago

It is my first pin. Think about selling it sometimes, but never do. It has been in storage for quite a few years now. Installed a NOS center ramp and NOS spinning target, also bought the plastic set, so I ended up with quite a bit in it.

#4 8 years ago

What's the going price for a nice player's condition Police Force these days? When I was taking a look about 6 to 9 months ago for one, I found a few in real nice condition for under $1000. One was even $850 and I didn't pull the trigger. Wondering if that was a mistake as I now see people asking $1200+ for them. I was always worried about reselling it later if I didn't like it. Seemed very hard to sell so was focused on getting the best price I could so I could break even later.

#5 8 years ago

I would like to buy a Police Force, if you have one for sale let me know.

#6 8 years ago

I would guess 900-1300

I have a nice one in central WI.

I'm in, it's my most underrated pin. Both adults and kids love it!

#9 8 years ago

Thank God for this club... I have my P.F currently down in molecules.. Lot´s of photos taken but I am pretty sure I am going to need all the help I can from you guys getting it back together.

Spare plastic on the left side of the center ramp anyone ? I am searching left and right for this one.. Seems broken on a lot of games.

If it comes down to it, I have a lot of pictures for one I just shopped. It's still in my house now, but not for long.

Same broken plastic, along with others.

#11 8 years ago

PF was my first pin, got it a few months ago. I love it! I already shopped mine, new rubbers, new plastics, LED lights. Waiting on a car from another member here. I've already played it some and love it, and so does the wife. I just need a center ramp to make mine look great.

Oh, and I might have a spare plastic left over from doing mine, will check for you. I have almost a complete set of old plastics left over.

#12 8 years ago

Another first pin owner here, got it last year.

Was briefly contemplating to get rid of it after my next door neighbour implored me to stop making whatever "that racket" was i now had to look into soundproofing my fledgling gameroom and unfortunately for me the machine was very much in the way for that kind of project

That ended up never happening and i'll be doing things the hard way instead but even if it had i'd have just gotten another one later since i happen to love Police Force so i'll take it as a blessing.

#13 8 years ago

Are there waterslide decals available anywhere besides the awful ones from ClassicArcades that are on e-bay ?

I bought them but was super disappointed with the quality... The artwork is crap. Isn´t even complete either as the "Drug Rat" is missing.

OK - so this is my first 'official Pinside club' as i dragged home a Police Force today. Would love to see more discussion as it appears to be a forgotten/unloved system 11.

I Paid $700 for what appears to be a well cared for game, however the car does not move so it needs to be left in the down position for the multiball to work. It didn't come with an owners manual or schematic so i ordered one off ebay. The center ramp is cracked on the side but doesnt affect the game play - from what i have read its near impossible for find a replacement

#15 8 years ago

Yeah, that seems to be a fair price and the two major problems you described seem to be the common ones on this pin and the good news is neither effect game play.

#16 8 years ago

Does the car motor try run at all? If so, its probably the relay under the playfield.

#17 8 years ago

I only took a quick look under the playfield but it didnt even have the belt installed. I will give the motor a look see tonight

#18 8 years ago

Success! Installed a new belt from Marco and the car now moves up and back - accepts the 1rst lock ball and makes the run down the lane after the 2nd ball locks.

I removed the old batteries (best if used before jan2005-haha) and replaced. Powered back on and got an "adjust failure" in the display. Initial mild panic turned to relief when I just had to set it back to 'free play' and it cleared

So my questions....

Issue 1:
When i first start a game the diverter on the upper right ramp does a fair amount of noisy random open and closing. I'm guessing next thing to do is to get to it and clean it up. Whats the best way to access that area? Does the playfield need to come out??

Also, can anybody tell me what determines when that diverter is supposed to be open or closed? The green 'lock1' is lit when the game starts and green 'lock2' lights after the first ball gets trapped in the car. I checked during multiball and it remained open so I'm just not sure when its supposed to close

Issue 2:
I have about a dozen broken star posts to replace and figure to replace all the rubber while I have it apart. Other than that it really needs a good cleaning

The diverter should be open when locks are available and when Jackpot is lit. When no locks are lit, and the spot POLICE is lit, the diverter should be closed and send balls down the wireform. It should also be closed when starting your third ball for the initial shots of "Take high score" and then open for the final shot.

It does sound like it's trying and failing to move the diverter. The best way to access it is with rubber arms. Seriously, it's a PITA. You can blindly remove pieces with the playfield propped, or use a very short screwdriver/socket with the playfield in the up position. Both ways suck, but I wasn't comfortable removing the playfield myself.

Try very hard to get it clean/working the first time because you don't want to have to go back in there. You should be able to actuate it by hand with it out of the game. If you find it getting stuck at all, it's not ready to go back in the game. If it's clean and still sticking, try a tighter/shorter spring.

Thanks aobrien5!

I was able to lift the play field, access and pull out the old cam. It was badly worn and filled with some sort of dirty lubricant so I replaced it. Even with the new cam in place it refused to open and close even when moving it by hand. I added some nylon washers to move the cam pivot point farther out from the coil and give it a better angle. Seems to work fine.

New member here! Picked my PF up about a week ago. All original, never worked on and fully working. Seems like a pretty fun game. I will be shopping it out with new rubbers, LED's, clean and wax.

My center ramp is missing a chunk near the entrance so I would like to replace it. So far all suppliers show out of stock for that ramp. Anyone have one that you bought but never used?

Thanks!
Tom

If anyone needs a belt I used rubber tubing for a nitro powered RC car. Worked flawlessly and available at most hobby stores.

Starship Fantasy just released the ramps again.

Pretty cool. I've seen all kinds of things used as replacements - rope, extension cords... - but they're actually available from Marco: http://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/23-573-B

I had to replace the plastic triangular pice for the diverter and can't get the bent metal cover back on the diverter assembly. The coil lugs seem to be in the way, but all of the other coils have the lugs on the other side of the spring. Is my coil on backwards?

image.jpegimage.jpeg

#25 7 years ago

Looks like it just needs to be turned.

IMAG1102.jpgIMAG1102.jpg

#26 7 years ago

They are clocked the same way, but the lugs on yours are on the spring side, not the coil stop side like I had done. Thanks for the response and picture. This thing is so close to 100%, now just have to troubleshoot the POLICE letters never lighting up.

#27 7 years ago

Police letters only light when the ball is diverted down the return ramp. Hopefully a working diverter will help!

Even in attract mode? They are the only ones that won't turn on ever. New bulbs didn't do the trick unfortunately. Lamp matrix column seems fine as the shoot again and extra ball lights work fine.

Yeah ok, that's not right. Check your lamp matrix. Might just be a bad connector or something. I don't remember how those lamps are, single pcb, shared with star?

Hello Police Force Club,

I am looking for the following and hoped fellow owners/previous owners could assist:

1) "COLUMBIAN COCAINE CARTEL" Plastic (to the right of center ramp)

a) High resolution scanned image of this plastic suitable for making personal reproduction
b) Need link to a seller (any source from "major online retailers" to small time sellers, even eBay) that has a reproduction, NOS, or used*
*I do not need a complete plastics set because all the other plastics are in very good condition.
c) Private sellers on pinside who want to PM me to negotiate

2) BALL GATE ASSEMBLY (upper right of center on the way to "G U N" and "Top Cop" target)

a) Out of stock at Marco Specialties: http://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/A-8244-R
b) I need a link to a seller that has stock of reproduction, NOS, or used

Might want to contact Cliffy on that gate and see if he has ever made any of those.

Hi Crash,

Thanks for the recommendation. I fabricated center ramp entry protectors and later saw that Cliffy does a similar thing. Never thought of him re: the ball gate. Long shot or not I will circle back to the Club if I learn anything.

Still looking for that COLUMBIAN COCAINE CARTEL plastic. At this point in time I am warming up to the idea of DIY making a select number of personal needs plastics if I can pin down usable images/scans.

Best Wishes,

PhantomP

Mine sounds like "da jews are mine!" Almost in a german accent.

C'mon. No one else in the club hears this the way I am?!

Just picked up a project police force. New car belt and minor diverter fix has the game running 100%. Hear a little too much static from the upper speaker when flashers go off so I will be investigating that next. Needs a lot of PF and plastics work. The middle ramp is ok but needs cliffy protectors to hide the entrance damage.

I meant to post this a while ago but forgot about it completely. I added 2 yellow LED strips under the right ramp area that are tied to the firing range light. I think it has a neat effect.

Mine started doing two interesting things recently. The car is coming down right after ball 1 locks and releases it. Lock 2 is what flashes after that, so it's thinking 1 is already locked. It's not kicking out what would be ball 2.

Also, the right side drop bank isn't resetting and when I do it manually, dropped targets don't score.

And suggestions on either would be great.

#42 6 years ago

I'm in Memphis and I'd be very interested in owning a Police Force.

#43 6 years ago

Welcome! Check out the Pinside Map and visit some of the locations around middle Tennessee. I'm pulling mine off route soon to shop out.

#44 6 years ago

Well it's been two years now, i really should update my review one of these days. ( nevermind the other pins i still got to write up about, old and new aquaintances alike )

I guess it's both a bit marmite and does it survive the honeymoon for most. Me personally, i wouldn't part with it unless i can get a nicer one but every one i've seen since has been beaten to a bloody pulp in one way or another so that's just not terribly likely to happen i guess. I mean, if it's such a ho hum pin how come most everyone in my neck of the woods runs theirs completely into the ground first before they sell it mmh?

Repairs have been relatively minimal, give or take a flipper assembly going to pot which taught me how to whip that back into shape and what fuse goes with it in the backbox and right now i need to find a local source for one of those extraterrestrial looking keys required to get the topper off as a dead bulb in it is staring me down.

You need a torx T-20 bit.
On mine you can access the bulbs by opening the back box and
Reaching up through the access holes.
Hope this helps

Much obliged, that really had me stumped as i've never seen star bolts with those particular thin/long indentations and wouldn't you know it ; it's one of those things were if you try to describe them google will insist you are speaking fluent chinese.

And yeah, there's two openings in the backbox but i've fumbled around in them and for the life of me i am unable to reach whatever is in there exactly, i presume a print that holds the bulbs but i don't actually know that yet... Thanks to your help i venture i'll find out soon enough though

Does anyone have play field scans of their PF? I will be starting a restore soon and my drug rat is mostly gone, along with alot of the shark, and other criminal lights. I also need some of the lion where the ball drops out of the millions ramps. Almost all markings on the inserts is gone most likely because the mylar was removed from my game.

So if anyone is shopping out their game sometime soon and can take some scans i would appreciate it. Or at least a nice high res picture that I (by I, I mean some friend i have who is artistically inclined) could at least try to recreate the missing art.

#49 6 years ago

Does anybody need a Hi-res scan of the CDC plastic? I can also provide a CAD drawing of the shape.

#50 6 years ago

Oh man, I could sure use that! There are a couple plastics I'm going to need to make.

PM sent.
