Good thread. I laughed quite a bit at some of the comments.

I'm a recovering Pokemon addict so I know the temptations this game has put upon the world. I think I'll stay away for now though as I value my time too much.

Everything should be done in moderation. Otherwise other aspects of life suffer.

Quoted from CrazyLevi:

LOL @ Cornelius melting down because someone thinks Pokemon Go is stupid.
Have fun with your pokestops bro, you truly have unlocked the mystery of how to achieve human happiness and joy in life. Perhaps one day I'll be like you, wandering around in an idiotic stupor trying to catch virtual what-have-yous while spending all day trying to keep up with what the latest fad and all the 12-year olds in a "game" that requires absolutely no skill.
Pure bliss.

LOL. Classic Levi.

I will say this. Pokemon has proven it isn't a fad and it's not just for twelve year olds. It originally came out in 1995 which was 21 years ago so a lot of people that play it are in their thirties.

Oh and Cornelius, the correct plural term is Pokemon. Don't want those rad teenagers knowing you're a newb.

Did Dave Mathews ever make it right for that pleasure cruise boat his touring bus dumped sewage on?

That's funny. I never heard of that.

I'm loving the enthusiasm for this game. I hope the developers make updates to keep interest alive.

Quoted from Wolfmarsh:

I have an interesting story about that. There actually is some skill to the scientific side of birdwatching.
I used to work on a project with the USGS to improve the accuracy of bird population estimations. Currently, ornithologists go into the woods with a clipboard and a timer. They stand still for a certain amount of time and record all the bird calls they hear, the distance away, and the general direction. They feed all of that information into a SAS program that spits out population numbers.
This entire system relies on the ability of the researchers to correctly identify what species of bird, the distance, and direction. It also requires them to decide if a call was the same bird or a different bird.
We built a bunch of remote wireless speaker boxes (basically glorified MP3 players) that could all be controlled by one wireless signal. Before the day of an experiment, we would place these boxes all around the woods and would sit these guys down in the woods and run through a bird count. After playing a playlist of bird calls, we would take their data and compare it to our known setup.
It was amazing how many of these guys were wildly inaccurate.

It doesn't take a scientist to see how that approach would be flawed.

I wonder if Niantic was being strategic in releasing the game during the summer or they just got lucky with the timing. If they would have released it during the winter, it may not have broke through like this.
