I just wanted to point out that my answer was just "No, I don't have a timeline" and NOT "No, I can't do an update".
I'm currently working on this but I don't have the solution yet.

Thanks for trying. Not to put a burden on your shoulder but wehave all trust in you sooner or later you will succeed.

Pinball Browser v6.30 can now open AC/DC 1.70

Awesome, your hard work and quick turn around is very appreciated.

#554 6 years ago

will try the update now and let us know if the mod still works

#555 6 years ago

I have the MikeD mod and want to apply the communication patch to the Rom so that it will work with the Mike D mod. Are there instructions for applying the communication patch?

Use Pinball Browser v6.30 to :
- Open the original Stern firmware file (ACD170LE.BIN)
- Go to the Sam tab; Load the communication patch v1.32 and enter your game serial number
- Save the modified firmware and copy it to a USB stick
- Upgrade your game

sorry

the pinball will not boot after this procedure

#557 6 years ago

Can anyone pm me the link with shoot to thrill who made who music changes. I’d love a downloadable link.

#558 6 years ago

this looks very cool

#559 6 years ago

anyone could offer a link for the original ACDC1.68 Prem/le?

that was fast, thank you

#560 6 years ago
Quoted from kapsreiter:

Same issue for me. Patched the new code and game won’t boot at all. I guess maybe the communication patch needs to be updated as well. Here’s hoping for a quick fix!

#561 6 years ago

So what you're saying is to not update AC/DC yet with the patch?

#562 6 years ago

I was excited to try the patch out tonight but now I better hold off. Hopefully a solution is found.

Following this closely as I'm hoping someone will post code that we can download to get this mod working again.

i tried today with the latest pinball browser to downgrade to 1.68
but the patch will also kill the 1.68 fw
so to downgrade to a working mikeMod i think i would need

v4.01: Communication protocol modified to support AC/DC v1.68 and similar firmwares
Modifications in patch loading to make it work with AC/DC v1.68
Display Stern logo as first image (if the firmware has one)
This version is ready for PinballMikeD AC/DC mod

#566 6 years ago

with Version 4.3 of pinball browser
i could patch FW 1.68 and the mod is working again

now i can wait if it will be possible with 1.70

#567 6 years ago
Quoted from kapsreiter:

What do you mean ?
I just did a test with Pinball Browser 6.30 + Communication Patch 1.32 and everything went well

#568 6 years ago

not here

when i patch FW 1.70 or 1.68 with pinball browser 63 + patch 1.32 the machine will NOT boot.

only when i try it with pbbrowser 4.3 (of course i can only open 1.68) the machine will boot again

so i have no way to update the machine to 1.70

#569 6 years ago

Oh man, now I’m tempted to try mine again later tonight.

This is interesting. Not only kapsreiter reported this issue but also Eharan reported it. So score is 2-1 apparently

Oga, you have mikeD mod to? In case not, could it perhaps be the life comm with the display which is causing it? Are you using the Rs232 interface while booting ?

Kapsreiter, did you try booting without anything connected to the rs232?

Oga, in a earlier post you mentioned you found issues and not easy to fix. Now you report a working AC/DC with 630 release ??

At least it’s looking promising. For any of you who wanna give it a try, advise is to first backup the firmware on your AC/DC so you can easily restore it when it doesn’t boot

My/MikeD smartdmd macro is under reconstruction at the moment by J_M so my testing will have to wait.

#571 6 years ago

Well I had the color Dmd go blank on 1.7. Had you shook me selected with tour and jam multi ball and 2x devil horns. Pretty sure it's repeatable.

Hoping someone can report how to get the Mike D mod working.

I do not understand why you need the game SN?

#572 6 years ago
Quoted from Rensh:

between this, my CftBL signpost mod, helping acaciolo by customizing all of the graphics for his 'no doubt' pinball (as well as a few other projects), I've got plenty of irons in the fire to keep me busy for the next couple of months [at the very least]

I had the same results here also. The game powers up but nothing appears on the DMD after updating to 1.70. I reverted back to 1.68 and the game works fine.

no!

#575 6 years ago
Quoted from Rensh:

I don't think so. He said "Patched the new code and game won’t boot at all". I assume that the "new code" is ACD170LE.BIN, not ACD168LE.BIN.

Quoted from Rensh:

Oga, in a earlier post you mentioned you found issues and not easy to fix. Now you report a working AC/DC with 630 release

Yes, I have found an issue with ACD170LE.BIN and the communication patch (any version) is not compatible with it.
I said that ACD168LE.BIN, modified with Pinball Browser 6.30 and communication patch 1.32 boots correctly.
I did the test again and I confirm.

sorry i can NOT confirm this, tried it 3 times

it is not possible to patch 1.68 with pinball browser 6.3 + patch 1.32 machine will not boot

i got it only back working with pinball browser 4.43

#577 6 years ago

Is someone looking to sell me his PinballMikeD AC/DC mod?

Make sure that your have an original ACD168LE.BIN file, not already modified with PB and not corrupted
Its MD5 sum should be c60b070b81659eecef744218f465fe43

I can't work on a fix for ACD170LE.BIN until some others give their feedback on this (game boots correctly with ACD168LE.BIN and Comm132.hex) because it's no use fixing the communication patch for ACD170LE.BIN if it does not even work on some games with ACD168LE.BIN.

Someone sent me the 1.68 file

where and how can i proof this MD5 ? in Pbbrowser? ------fund a tool MD5 hasher freeware

may be someone send me a link for a original 1.68 i could test it again

#580 6 years ago

my original 1.68 File has the same

c60b070b81659eecef744218f465fe43 \\Mac\Home\Downloads\ACDC_LE_1\ACD168LE.BIN

my patched 1.68 with 1.32 hex and entered serial of the machine has
c72b53b6b5fa87f3c98e4d63d3ca4dbc \\Mac\Home\Downloads\ACDC_LE_1\132\ACD168LE.BIN

and will not boot

#581 6 years ago

Run the same macro with PB630 as I originally had over rel 168. This has SMARTDMD macro + 132 patch.

Text macro at start

-- Pinball-Browser Macro for AC/DC v1.68
CheckVersion,"AC/DC",0x168
LoadHex,"comm132.hex"
-- The following 2 lines are for Side-Channel :
-- PaletteMode,1
-- Entry,3,0x4110000,24321
-- The following 2 lines are for In-Frame :
-- PaletteMode,0
-- PaletteId,080a090b
ExtendMemory
-- Uncomment the following line to protect the firmware :
-- Needs to be done before releasing the product !
-- Protect

after that the usual coloring part starts.

Checked the Checksum to make sure I really am using original Firmware. Same as OGA (and Kapsreiter)

Can confirm it boots now on 168 with PB630, smartdmd is OK and also MikeD display is working. So, similar experience as OGA

#582 6 years ago

Addtional info : I am using W10 64 bit

I understand Kapsreiter is using a MAc and W10 in parallels. Perhaps this gives a clue where to find the cause of the problem?

I have sent Kapsreiter a rel 168 compiled with macro just containing the commhex132. If his pin boots now than ??

The issue is related to the side-channel palettes (which anyway should not be used with Mike's mod).
If you select "side-channel (serial)" in the "Store Color" drop down list (Smartmd tab in Pinball Browser), the game will not boot (I have tested this on my game).
I don't know why and I'll investigate so that we don't have the issue on AC/DC 1.70.
Thanks for your tests !

#584 6 years ago

thanks

will test tonight and will report tomorrow

tom

#585 6 years ago

OK!
could now confirm that you can use pbbrowser 6.30 to patch 1.68
but check that at SmartDmD Tab "side Channel" is not selected "inflame" is the right setting

thx

so now we hope you find the problem with 1.70

Ok. I am using indeed Inframe coloring and not sidechannel.

Are you telling here that if we don’t use side channel (which is not required for MikeD mod) we already can use 170 with mikeD mod?

No, the communication patch (any version) does not work with AC/DC 1.70

#588 6 years ago

I've corrected the pinball browser macro for ac/dc to allow it to process and colorize v1.70 (premiums and LEs)

if you guys that are using this are feeling generous, I wouldn't say 'no' to any charitable donations that you want to throw my way

before the first EditImage command, your macro should look like this:

-- Pinball-Browser Macro for AC/DC v1.70
CheckVersion,"AC/DC",0x170
--LoadHex,"comm132.hex"
-- The following lines is for for Side-Channel:
-- PaletteMode,1

-- The following 2 lines are for In-Frame:
-- PaletteMode,0
-- PaletteId,080a090b

ExtendMemory

-- this is good for memory locations 0x5AB thru 0x1B95 (v1.68)
-- cooresponding with locations 0x5BC thru 0x1BA6 (v1.70)
ShiftId,0,0x1A,0x40
ShiftId,0,0x1C,0x1A
ShiftId,0,0x3A,0x36
ShiftId,0,0x44,0x42
ShiftId,0,0x4E,0x5B
ShiftId,0,0x64,0x70
ShiftId,0,0xB5,0xC4
ShiftId,0,0xB7,0xC8

-- tiny cannon exploding
ShiftId,0,0x1B96,0x1BD2

-- 4 frames of little devil angus w/ a pitchfork
ShiftId,0,0x1BA3,0x1BA8

ShiftId,0,0x1BA7,0x1BE7

Dumb question but does this mean you got 1.70 working with the comm132.hex patch for things like the PMD LCD mod?

#590 6 years ago

not a dumb question

however, what it means it that I figured all of the changes that stern made with the positions of existing and new graphic elements in the new file and figured out the cooresponding locations to include the proper shift I’d commands to allow the macro to apply itself to the .bin file so that the colorization works correctly

with that said, it still appears that mike colored some of the concert footage strangely or that due to the changes in memory address locations, some of the clips appear odd

#591 6 years ago

Is the fix for the COLORDMD or the MikeD LCD Mod, or both? Or just allowing them to access stuff to fix their products? Just trying to understand.

#592 6 years ago

colordmd has nothing to do with this. this fix is for the smartdmd coloring script

#593 6 years ago
Quoted from j_m_:

well that's kinda confusing because this is the interactive lcd mod thread. Maybe this https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/pmd-smartdmd-kits-coming-soon would be a more appropriate thread to post fixes for that mod.

Any luck yet with getting a new communication patch to work with 1.70 yet? I really like the new code but starting to really miss having a working PMD mod! Thanks!

#595 6 years ago

Wondering the same thing....^^^^
Weighing the options....update code and lose mod indefinitely....or wait on code and enjoy the mod...
So far I’ve waited to update...not sure yet what I’m missing haven’t played with new code yet. Worse case I sell the mod and just move on...

#596 6 years ago

I'm still holding out hope for the fix too.

I've been thinking about the same thing but who will buy it when it only works up to 1.68, I wouldn't.

The communication patch will work on AC/DC v1.70 but the issue is not easy to fix and it takes time.

Give Oliver some time guys. Its only been a week/half since the code came out. He's stated this is not an easy fix but not leaving anyone hanging.
