Hi, the physical plunger just isn’t striking the ball hard enough. Any tips on getting it to strike harder? Thanks

Look at the plunger tip and rotate the plunger handle....1. Is it lined up 2. Does it move around when rotated?
Sometimes you just gotta loosen the pluger housing and move it them re-tighten it
Is it hitting the center of the ball ? The plunger assembly is adjustable with screws inside the cabinet, to move around as needed.
Stronger spring ? They come in verying strengths.
Or remove the long spring, grab each end with a hand, give it a couple pulls making it a little longer. Put it back in. See if that helps.

Seems like the plunger barley makes any contact with the ball. It’s centered but just a small tip of the plunger is actually striking the ball
On the outside of the cabinet. You might have plunger knob - then fat spring - then washer.
Try removing the washer if there is one there.
You do have a rubber tip on the plunger inside hitting the ball ?

What game, what brand etc...Note: Gottlieb plunger is not Bally plunger.
I would guess the game is Godzilla, since that is the game listed in your collection. If so like LTG said the washer on the outside of the shooter housing could be removed. If that doesn’t give you the extra length needed you could try a Williams/Bally shooter rod. They are are little bit longer than the Stern shooter rods. Only issue could be the diameter of the shooter rod being a bit too tight in the stern shooter housing, but I believe in most cases the Williams/Bally shooter rod fits the diameter of the housing fine.
Quoted from TheLaw:Stern GZ youd think
yes sorry for any confusion. its another out the box problem with stern godzilla. everything looks tip top except the plunger barley touches the ball on the strike.

Look at it carefully too. Is ball hanging up on an auto launch or shooter lane switch and not rolling back far enough?

How would I take the washer off?

Remove the e clip holding everything on
in the rest position how close is the rubber tip to the ball ? is it just touching it ? if not , you need to remove the washer , if that doesn't work shorten the outside spring

Inside the game, remove the rubber tip. Carefully remove the clip holding the spring on, it will try to launch into never never land. Pull plunger out. Remove washer. Put plunger back in. Try and find the spring and clip and put them back on. Replace the rubber tip.
