I cleaned my plunger assembly for my Secret Service machine and it was very smooth for a few days. It is now back to how it was - hard to pull, feels like it's rubbing metal to metal. All I did was wipe it down. I read to not use WD40 but what else can I do? I wouldn't mind replacing the whole mechanism but I imagine parts are scarce.

Thank you for the help.

I replace a crazy number of plungers, and they are seven bucks at pinball life, part number:

20-9253-7

If the brass bushing is the problem I just replace the whole thing with part no:

500-6146-00-04

Thirty bucks at pinball life.

If you want to try your luck on the fitted brass bushing, it is part number:

280-5010-00

Available from Marco Specialties.

Wow thank you for the fast reply. Does it matter that the Secret Service game was from 1988 and the assembly says it is for 1990-2021? Will it be close enough?

What did you clean it with? Lighter fluid/napatha can usually clear this kind of thing nicely if you wanted to give it one more try.

Do you have a nylon plunger sleeve installed?

I believe I just used a clean cloth and wiped down the rod and the inside of the bushing. Maybe it was isopropyl alcohol? Honestly can't remember. I'll try what you suggested.
