Barry Oursler and his wife Donna have both been diagnosed with some very serious health issues and are in need of our support. Please check out Barry's Gofundme page and help them out if you can. I love Barry's games and many of them are very sentimental to me from childhood.

I'm always amazed when I look up a game I enjoy and find that, yup, yet again Barry Oursler was the guy behind it (and those vicious outlanes). I'm in.

    #5 9 years ago

Terrible news. Let's all try to help.
Btw which games did Barry make?

    #6 9 years ago

Done. Thanks for letting us know.

Barry Oursler has made huge contributions to pinball. His games such as Pinbot, Space Shuttle, Dr. Who, Comet and many, many others have been bringing joy to pinball lovers everywhere.

Barry and his wife Donna are very ill. Dealing with bone marrow cancer and kidney failure has them fighting for their lives, and their medical bills are huge.

Please do your best to help Barry and Donna get past this tough time in their lives. You can also help by copying this message to other threads.

Any donation will be appreciated. Please go to the link below.

    Thanks,

    Steve Ritchie

    #12 9 years ago

Thanks for pointing this out to us. Horrible situation they are in. Hopefully they can make it through things okay.

It's really cool going through the list of people that donated and seeing so many industry folks listed.

    Quoted from skywalker:

Is there a paypal account set up for donations

I was wondering if we could get PM'd if Mr. Oursler has an e-mail address where he can receive Paypal donations? If he has a Paypal account he can receive money FREE with no charges, and it's more secure for my family and I'm sure many others. We only have to send the money as a "Gift" under the Paypal selections.

Thanks to whoever made this a sticky.

    Quoted from Billy16:

    Another way to donate:
From Jim Schelberg of the PinGame Journal --
I just got this from designer Barry Oursler (Jan 26, 2014) and I'm hoping anyone who reads it will help.
"In February 2013, I was diagnosed with bone marrow cancer. The treatments and prescriptions are not fully covered and last July, Donna was diagnosed with kidney failure. She must receive dialysis three times per week and her prescriptions are also very expensive. To make matters worse, it is costing us $350 per month for her transportation no matter how we have tried to lower that cost.
We have been married almost 40 years and I would like to keep us both around for awhile longer, but things have gotten pretty desparate at the Oursler household.
I have never done anything like this before but I didn't know where else to turn except to my friends and fans in pinball.
If you can help, any amount would be appreciated. Thanks, Barry"
(Please donate at the link below. If you would like to use a check, I am accepting them on Barry's behalf. Make them out to the PinGame Journal, mark it For Barry and send to 31937 Olde Franklin Drive, Farmington Hills, MI, 48334 USA.
Also, all donations to the PGJ through PayPal at the PGJ web site for the rest if this month (Jan 2014) will go, instead, to Barry. So if its easier for you that way, do it. -- http://www.pingamejournal.com/cool (you can increase the "Quantity" to increase your donation)

Barry, if you read this, you should know that Comet was my first pin and probably the one I have been most excited to get. The reason? I grew up in Illinois and went to Riverview Park each summer. I remember riding the Comet on my birthday. It was the first time I had been on a real roller coaster, and I will always remember it fondly. So, I was delighted to learn that Williams had been located close to Riverview and that Comet was based on my favorite coaster. I smile every time I think back to those days, which I hadn't done in years before seeing that pin. Thanks!

Donation sent. FYI I did not know who this was at first. I am newer into pinball. Mr. Ritchie's pointing out Dr. Who did it for me.

I actually just picked up a Jungle Lord on Saturday. Awesome game!

And I just donated today. Barry's multitude of games have brought fun to millions of people around the globe.
He helped "Save Pinball" with Space Shuttle. He was the first guest we went after when we
started planning our Expo. Really great guy from our interactions with him.

The least we can do is get him to that goal. Let's keep this rolling to 20k, folks!

Really proud of the Pinball / Pinside community today.

For those who don't know Barry and what he has done for pinball...checkout this TOPcast show recorded in 2007. Definitely worth a listen. Like most designers, the man was passionate about pinball!

Cyclone & Grand Lizard are in my house TO STAY.

Barry, while I have played many pins in my youth during the 70's & 80's, Cyclone is the game that hooked me. And I mean it truly was, and still is, an addiction! I only discovered the genius that is Grand Lizard in 2013. I simply cannot imagine being without either of these games. Thank you, thank you, thank you for these wonderful titles!!!

Sending my donation & many prayers.

Donation made through the Pingame Journal using PayPal.

It's not much but if everyone can donate "not much" it will add up.

    #32 9 years ago

This man is a legend in pinball. He doesn't have the celebrity of Steve or Pat, but look how many games he designed. Half of my basement is Barry Games. Fire, Jokerz, Dr Who, Fire, Space Station, Space Shuttle, Pinbot, Barracora etc etc. These games have brought so much joy to me a donation is the least I can do.

    #33 9 years ago

    The pinball community is amazing!

And...a lot small-small donation from here can be a great amount, I believe.

From the sound of it, they are going to need a lot more than $20k, so I hope the donations keep coming.
