I always thought it was a visual indication for shorter vs. longer screws for mounting thinner or thicker assemblies. I've not heard of a longer screw used for mounting a thick bracket accidentally used for a thin socket going through the playfield. Maybe someone could mic the length of the threaded part and see if there's a difference. Otherwise, I'm not sure the difference.
On WPC games, the brass screws are shorter than the galvanized screws. I would assume that it is the same on Stern games. You will notice that thinner brackets have brass colored screws and the thicker brackets have silver colored.
IIRC, the brass are 3/8" from tip to bottom of head, and galvanized are 1/2".
Stern uses short and long zinc coated wood screws. These copper color ones are as long as the longer zinc ones, and equal diameter. They are just a different color
When I get home I’ll get a picture of the 2 side by side with measurements
It seems like they use short zinc ones for all the lights.
Longer zinc screws are used on all the assemblies
Longer copper screws are used on all rollover switches and the relay between the flippers.
Could it be something to do with plastic vs metal components? All the switch assemblies are mounted on a plastic L bracket and the relay is plastic.
