Hey guys - decided to have my Space Invaders PF restored and cleared. If it were just cleared, I would be all over it myself. I have restored several cabs with automotive base coat/cc and am very comfortable doing it. I have a Capspray unit that works very well. That said - I have never touched up a PF and while I am not afraid to try - this is not one I want to mess up.

The PF is actually in VERY good condition with some minor wear areas but I would like a top notch job done because this is a keeper for me. I had some questions I was hoping everyone could help me with:

1 - I did search for restorers and came up with a few names, but are there some good recommendations for someone who can do a great job?
2 - Also - do I have to reglue the inserts or can I leave that for the restorer? I know if I were restoring the playfield I would want to do it myself to know it was good to go before the clear job.
3 - Since I am comfortable with clearing myself, should I have someone restore and I clear, or would you recommend I have the restorer just do it so it comes back perfect?
4 - Is there anyone from #1 above who is recommended but is accepting work and won't take 6 months to return it to me. I would like to send this in and get it started soon.
5 - Is there something about this process I haven't considered that I should?

Thanks again everyone. Appreciate all of the support!

There are several really good restores on Pinside. I have seen work from at least 3 of them that I would trust.

Personally, I would let the restorer tackle all of it. I don't think your going to save a ton of $$$ by doing some parts yourself. Since they have the PF, why not let them Clear Coat? Depending on whom, that may run you another 300-400? But it will come out perfect. If they screw it up, they redo it...If you have problems....well your stuck with it. For something that is hard to replace, I would minimize my risk exposure.

Since your timeline is short, you might want to give Chris Kruger a ring. I've seen his work on 2 play fields, and it was extremely good; plus his turn around time was 60-90 days (not sure what it is now, you will have to check).

Probably should have also asked - is there any company that has this on their list to repro? PPS, CPR?

Posting some pics of the PF that I would like restored in case the fact that it is an SI is scaring anyone off. It actually looks pretty darn good for 34 years old, but I really would like to get it looking awesome and cleared. If anyone has any ideas on a good restorer that might be taking work - please let me know. Does not have to be in Northern Virginia - I can certainly ship it if required. Thanks!

Per your earlier question, I don't know of anyone whom is planning to reproduce.

Thats one of the better SI play fields I have seen. Probably would not be that expensive to restore.

Thanks everyone - Chris got back with me so I am probably going to have him do it. Appreciate the help!
