I need to repair my Stern Indiana Jones around the magnet area. My magnet is deformed which caused the wood around the magnet to pull down resulting in a divot or depression about a 1/4 inch out from the magnet in all directions. Maybe a 1/4 deep as well. This area will need to be filled before I install a decal and mylar and finally a Cliffy. Has anyone done this before? The Cliffy I have is only a circle. I think he makes a better protector for this area which I will need to look into. I did buy a new magnet. Thanks for any help provided.

I don’t think wood filler will work. It’s too soft. I’m no expert try but I think this fiberglass impregnated filler should work. Look at the HEP thread. Chris discusses using it for all kinds of repairs.
    Look at post 5579.

Might suggest an actual picture of the damaged area for logical suggestions on repair. Putting any filler on the top side of a Playfield rarely looks good without professional detail or coverup. I find it hard to believe simply installing a Cliffy ring protector wouldn’t fix and eliminate this.

I used this for a similar repair on my The X Files. I guess I forgot to take a complete "before" picture but this is the filled in and then (OK, AT BEST*) touch up / mylar job I did. It's been holding up strong for about a year now with lots of play.

*(close up picture makes it much more noticeable than in play. Still much better than a blank black metal cover that Sega issued.)

I will be using a decal over the area once it is repaired. On top of the decal the precut mylar sold by most of the vendors and then the Cliffy. I got this Cliffy 2 years ago. It is just a circle with a hole for the magnet core. Its not the normal type Cliffy but a material harder than mylar. Its about the same thickness. By the way I'm old and have never learned how to post pictures. If someone knows of a place on the internet where I can learn to take pictures from my phone and post them on Pinside please PM me with a link to the information. Thanks.

I assume the Bondo Glass is a automotive product I can pick up at a store like Advance Auto.

This is actually the product I used, not the fiberglass specific one.

Bondo 32 fl. oz. Lightweight Body Filler
