Just want to throw this out there. I have 3 playfields; one nice and two that are not, at all. I'm restoring two machines and trying to figure out what would be the best combination.

Option 1:
Hard top playfield in machine 1, hard top playfield in machine 2 and sell off the nice playfield.

Option 2:
Hard top playfield in machine 1, nice playfield in machine 2 and sell off a bad playfield.

Option 3:
Hard top the two bad playfields and sell one off and have one Hardtop machine and one original.

Is there any interest in buying a playfield with a hard top already installed? Is there any value in doing that? I figure that the only way someone might want the bad playfield is to hard top it, but some may not want to go through doing that on their own.

Just thinking out loud here and trying to save on shipping costs.

I had posted this in the comet thread, but no traction there.

Ok, I'll say option 2
Though you might not get much for selling the bad playfield Option 3 is probably too much work and expense to hardtop the second playfield to sell and try to get your money/time invested in the work.

Just my 2 cents!

Good luck anyway you decide...

Depends on the condition of the target machines.

If any of them are full restores, new cabinet paint, etc. then installing the nice playfield will add value vs. a hardtop.

If they are just decent originals I'd install the 2 hardtops in them and sell the nice playfield for $$$.

Option 3 might make sense if you were stripping the 3rd bad playfield anyway adding the hardtop wouldn't be much additional effort and somebody would appreciate buying it already installed vs having to do it themselves. Might want to test the waters there see if you can line up a buyer in advance since a fair market price would be hard to know.
