I am on a weekend getaway with my girlfriend this weekend, and on our way today we stopped in Toronto at the playdium store to check it out. They have it in the main entrance as soon as you enter the store.

First thing I noticed is how bad/cheap the cabinet art looks. Second, I gave the playfield a really good looking at. Honestly this thing looks like a complete plastic, sticker cutout POS a really shiny piece, but you can't polish a turd.

Then I pushed the start button.... well I was greated by a bad british accent(I think its supposed to be a roadie or something) That says "ladies and gentlemen the rolling stones" REALLY? So I launch the ball and a rolling stones tune starts, not too sure which one. Some record spinning on the DMD. Some lights flashing, the usual stuff.

Shots were really easy, Nothing really too interesting to look at and the Mick plastic jumping back and forth is terrible. It called out some shots, but honestly I really didn't want to keep playing. But I did, It is very, very simular to any older machine the ramps really do nothing for gameplay (AT ALL) the main goal is just to shoot for the lot arrows to try to get an encore performance and increase the multiplier. I don't know if it was me but it seemed like there was no real ball lock for a multiball.

Bad annoying voices, sounds terrible. Tunes ok if you like the stones, DMD AWFUL!!!!
Playfield layout and shots LAME! Artwork WORST EVER, WORST EVER.

The only thing I can say is that I played my first ball (for awhile actually) then After it drained down the right side. I didn't want to keep playing, it was that bad, and not fun or interesting enough to keep me wanting to play. I played out the rest of my game dissatisfied and disappointed. I was hoping for some cool DMD effects maybe some strange multiball jackpot combo's something like that. But nothing really happened, it seems like a throwback to older machines, possibly a not so good system 11. That in itself not being a bad thing but... this is 2011.

So honestly this thing should be burried like the Stones are... Oh wait the are still alive? They sure don't look it, and this pin isn't gonna help their image or improve record sales or pinball sales for that matter.

I might give it another shot if I see it on route somewhere, someday,.... NAH no I wont!!! I honestly want to forget this thing exists.

After, I actually ran to play 24. (seriously)LOL It makes other bad pins look fantastic by comparison.

Erak, post your rating since you are like the first to play from here. Too bad it isn't that great.

#3 13 years ago

I think it looks cheap. But I still would like to play it. I hope they do go cheap on tron I will be pre ordering one.

#4 13 years ago

Just submitted my rating. My lowest so far. I find it hard to believe Stern will make any money on these. I have a feeling there will be a lot of extra stock, or a small limited run because of low orders/sales. It is definately not money well spent.

My guess is 1500, maybe less made in the end.

#5 13 years ago

oh man bummer...
was hoping the game would be as good as some others of Sterns resent games

#6 13 years ago

I have also played it. I played about 5 games and it did nothing for me. Had lots of balls drain down the left side without even laying a flipper on them. I thought it looked ok if you like the stones but just not fun to play and yes, it does look cheap regrettably.

#7 13 years ago

I think they're figuring that now Stern has re-established itself, they can reduce costs on production. People are going to buy the machine because of its theme, not its playability. Truly a pin for the casual gamer.

Either that or they had to go cheap to make the machine profitable after paying the royalties to the Stones. One of the two.

#8 13 years ago

Maybe Sterns next games will be a winner, competing against JJP might make them go all out, especially if the rumors about Steve coming to Stern are true.Pinsiders should be the real winners, although pins will cost more.It will be worth it if the games are loaded and better.Competition creates innovation, maybe we will see new technology in pins and more reliability with easier maintenance!Competition may also mean competitive pricing!!

#9 13 years ago

Erak, I'm curious to see your NBA Fastbreak rating. Was it good?

Wow, I searched around looking for the consensus on this game and its pretty bad huh? I saw a guy selling his perfect as new for $3000. And I knew it came out this year.....so why was it selling for about half of what it would cost after tax within a year of its release?

Must be pretty bad huh? I haven't seen anything really positive about it.

#11 12 years ago

I love the stones. With that being said, the only place around here to play pins in the wild has it. I've played a dozen or so games on it and as much as I wanted to love it and put it on my wish list I'll have to agree it is horrible. Cheap, plastic, boring and just plain annoying. That really sucks!!

#12 12 years ago

Lets hope ACDC aint as bad....

#13 12 years ago

Once you familiarize yourself with the rules it gets better, but not by much. Overall, it's one of the worst games Stern has put out in the last ten years.

#14 12 years ago

I bought a HUO after I played it. The playfield really is nothing new and the Mick on A Stick is really basic but the two Ramps are smooth and it's the rules that make up for it.
The add a ball, flipper lane change, play records, combo licks mode and everything are well done.

I did play the LE of this model and felt it was not worth it for the magnets, power ball and "forever" up posts.

I have a lot of fun with it, oddly it gets played the most by the younger kids that come over of my sons friends.

#15 12 years ago

My .02 game is pretty bad. I played it at Gameworks some and won a free game and NEVER have I walked away from a free game when I have to pay. I honestly did. It felt cheap, looked cheap, and was unappealing to "go on tour". Ramps did have some flow to mnpinball point but didn't make up for it. Opinions vary, respecting others, just horrible game.

Ok, worse than Family Guy. I said it.

#16 12 years ago

Yeah, I played 3 different machines of these, all were brand new and working. Still didn't like it. Mick is extremely annoying as he blocks the shots AND the returns. He is purposefully screwing the ball control and sending it into the slings or outlanes. Great for Ops but not for players. So the only way to get any flow is to shoot the ramps. That Play Record ball gate which drops the ball SDTM is also a frustrating PITA. And sadly, it looks and feels cheaply made too. I give it two thumbs down with a wet raspberry. There are so many other good pins to be had for the money.

#17 12 years ago

I like the Stones, but why does it have to be the old Stones. No one cares about the crap they put out now. I think I played $5 worth and didn't even hear No Satisfaction.

I'm seriously interested in buying a 24... it looks like great fun! Sorry to sway a bit off topic... but it did get mentioned as being a bad pin, so thought I'd voice my view

I sold CSI and 24, don't miss them. CSI has a great layout but rules are terrible and all multiball.
24 is better rules wise but just not a keeper.

Why was it not a keeper?? Might help me decide if to buy one...

#21 12 years ago

I like 24. The fact that I'm a huge fan of the show probably helps. Could it have been better? Of course, but I still think it's pretty fun. I find that there are few games that I really hate. I just like playing pinball so much that I find even the "bad" ones to be entertaining. I do, however, really dislike The Sopranos.

I think thats the key to alot of pins. You definitely get a boost of enjoyment from pins where you are attached to the theme. Its why I can't get behind a DM, LW3, LAH, or a JM. I dont know why the 90s were full of themes from crappy action movies, but I'd rather have an original themed game any day. Your FT, NGG, Road Show, ect.

That being said, stuff I really love...Jurassic Park, LOTR, POTC, Tron; Like I said, you just have to have a special place in your heart for the licensed property.

#23 12 years ago

I enjoy playing 24 when I get the chance. I know I am in the minority on that one. I did not watch the show at all and went into playing it without any preconceptions and I ended up thinking it was pretty fun. Just my 2 cents.

#24 12 years ago

The Rolling Stones will always have a special place as it's the first machine I ever got a high score on. Still not the great. The biggest problem is really the fact that you don't get to hear any early stones tunes.

#25 12 years ago

I played it for the first time two nights ago (TC's, only wild pinball in Boston). I don't generally don't like to read negative posts. Seems like a waste of energy but...

I just couldn't find anything I like about the game. Music tracks are ADD truncated. Ramps are remedially giant but seem to do nothing. Mick is a giant mess. Ball seems to spend most of it's time behind the target. The album shot was a promised drain (unless it hits Mick's ass on the way SDTM). I beat the ball round what seemed like for ever. Played a couple multi balls. Rocked a particularly smooth death save. Lit all but one light (couldn't for the life of me figure out what it wanted me to do for the last light) and only scored a couple mil... Went back to the bar rail and had a beer.

#26 12 years ago

It sure looks shitty i must say.

yeah, that looks almost like its a joke...

Look at all those key chains!

#29 12 years ago

I'll throw down $500 for a mint one, looks like the Hardbody of the 2000's, hahhahha so bad it's good....

#30 12 years ago

RS isn't horrible! just not top tier pinball to me...

#31 12 years ago

Poor Mick Jagger... he has 2 metal screws on his penis

I agree. I actually like Rolling Stones but I like the music/band. I don't own it but I certainly like playing it.

Mick and the penis screws...that's a classic!

And here comes AC/DC.........

#36 12 years ago
Quoted from iceman44:

You know what would be awesome? NOT representing bandmembers in plastic. AC/DC has enough iconic imagery that you could get away with it being more GNR and RS

Quoted from TheDude:

Indeed! I can't believe they released the game with those silly cut outs.

#38 12 years ago

In the Leisure Casino Centre arcade in London UK, which normally has the latest Stern games, they have already kicked out TRS to fit in a large sit-down video racing game.

Iron Man and Avatar are still there. They were getting more play than TRS I believe!

#39 12 years ago

Just think about who that game is marketed towards.

The 18-35 year olds don't have any fond memories of the Stones.

The 35-50 year olds might remember a few Stones' videos from MTV before it turned to Rap and shows about little girls crying.

Really, the game is marketed towards 55-75 year old customers at a bar or bowling alley. They are old enough to remember the Stones' heyday, they don't want a game that is too complicated or that looks imposing.

We can armchair quarterback all we want about how lame of a game it is, but it probably is just the right amount of lame for its target market.

It's sad this machine has dissapointed so many. My wife is the biggest Stones fan ever...all during our 21 year marriage. We played it when it came out and only enjoyed the music...not the machine. She was crushed...not that we had the money to buy one but if somehow we did we would never waste that kind of money on this machine, despite her being a big Stones fan. So sad. We see (not played though) an improvement with the LE (sounds great) but that adds another $1k to the price and now it's around $6k total. Still out of reach and no guarantee it is better since we never played it. If I could give her something and find a way financially to do it buy getting one I would for her...what a shame even her would not let me because it seems such a waste of money

at least she has her ipod loaded with Stones tunes from me going forward

The Pro and LE have the same sound system, how is the LE better over the Pro in that respect ?
I will say a Flipper Fidelity sub makes a H-U-G-E difference.
I love the pin, different strokes for different folks. And again I bought it HUO "after" I played it so I'm not self praising the justification of buying a new one.
