All depends on the games and manufacturers. Gottliebs need to be raised higher than a Williams or Bally in most cases.
Gottileb recommended 3 1/2 degrees. I find 3 1/2 the ball floats to much. I usually start a 4 and play it for a week then try going incrementally steeper by 1/2 degree and again play it for a while. There will be the sweet spot and if you go past that, you'll be backing it down a bit. Depending on the game title and your preference, they all have their sweet spot.
