Quoted from OLDPINGUY:

1960 Douglas Skyhawk for sale. $995,000 or Trade for 100 LE's[quoted image]

I remember in the mid 80s when the USAF came to NZ for military exercises with NZAF.

USAF had their new F18 Hornets from memory.

NZAF had old Skyhawks held together with masking tape and superglue.

NZAF took out the F18s in half an hour.

True story. The Father in law was in the Air Force for 30 years.

The F18s were so fast, in close combat the Skyhawks could out manoeuvre them.

Plus NZ only has like 20 pilots so they’re all pretty good.

I remember I was at High School at the time - a couple of F18s flew over the school, way up high, long vapour trails out the back, and broke the sound barrier. Boooom.

NZ sold the Skyhawks probably about 10 years ago - we don’t have any fighters at all now. Just Hercules etc.
